Dornock
Already a breathtakingly fantastic live band, Danny and the Champions of the World have been going from strength to strength over the last year. Every time they play the audience leaves with big smiles and high praise for just how good they are. When you put this together with one of the best live music pubs in Sheffield, the scene is set for one of the most exciting gigs of the year. It should be no surprise then that Danny and the Champs latest tour is billed as – the PUBS ROCK TOUR. Front man Danny George Wilson has always attracted plaudits, first, as the main man with Americana favourites Grand Drive, then as a solo artist, and now with the Champs. A prodigiously talented songwriter, Danny understands how to conjure magical melodies out of thin air; understated, unaffected, memorable and emotionally rewarding. The new album Hearts and Arrows sees Danny plug in his Stratocaster, gather together a rocking band and transport us back to the days of seedy dives, circa 1979. The follow up to last year's acclaimed album, Streets of Our Time, is one of the year's best releases, drawing comparisons with everybody from Tom Petty to Springsteen's E Street Band. Too good to be true? Check out what the press had to say about Hearts and Arrows: “Danny Wilson is turning into one of those artists he has venerated – Ryan Adams, Mark Olson, and Bruce Springsteen even.” **** The Times “A dusty, wistful, sepia-toned postcard from an imagined past, slots right in between peak Kerouac, Pat Garrett-era Dylan, and Crosby, Nash, Stills and Young.” **** Mojo magazine “A thunderously exciting third album.” Word magazine (Best of 2011) “Lovely, improbably elegiac stuff.” **** Uncut magazine “The real thing…they are the champions.” ****Q magazine Danny and the Champs will be accompanied by “dirty folk” rockers, Billy Vincent. Fronted by long time compatriots and best friends, Billy Barratt and David Vincent, the band have crafted a collection of songs that are as stimulating lyrically as they are musically. Billy Vincent's first single 'Bottle Top' is out February 13th, taken from their forthcoming debut album 'She' which will be available on all formats this spring. To celebrate this fantastic night, promoter Boo-Hoo Music has 4 copies of Danny and the Champions’ superb Heart and Arrows to give away. All ticketholders will be entered into a draw, held on the night of the gig to win one of these CDs. Danny’s record company, Loose Records, is also offering a FREE DOWNLOAD of You Don’t Know (My Heart Is In The Right Place), available up until the 14th Feb.
