Furnace is a tabletop roleplaying game convention in Sheffield UK, taking place on the weekend of 18-19th October 2008 at The Garrison Hotel.

There will be space for 70+ delegates and you are most welcome to join us for a convivial weekend of roleplay gaming amongst the seven hills of Sheffield. Set in a former army gaol, 4 of the gaming tables are set in the cells of miscreants and scallywags. Where better to game!

Information will become available over the coming weeks on this website as we gear up for a fun weekend of roleplaying games. Please use the forum at the Tavern to chat about the convention; the games you want to bring and play and anything else that strikes you. The Tavern’s First Age, Newt, Darran and Guvnor are bringing this event to you and we are happy to help with any of your questions.

Look forward to meeting you at Furnace 2008!

Getting into the venue is straight forward, use the white door [which will have a Furnace Logo on it] to get to the main stairs. The main room is on the second floor. Or you could go through the main door of the Jailhouse restaurant and either go through the big brown wooden door to the right to get access to the main stairs or take the lift to the second floor.

The main part of the venue we have for Furnace 2008 is the Garrison Room. It is located on the first floor above the main Jailhouse Restaurant. It has it’s own bar and the registration desk, the sign-up boards, the traders and main gaming area is located here.

We also have a few other rooms available for games, The Cell located in the basement of the main building that contains three gaming tables and The Armoury located across the courtyard from the main building that also contains three more gaming tables.

The Jailhouse Restaurant, downstairs, is open to the public but has some comfortable leather chairs with tables that would make good gaming tables for card or board games.

The main part of the room contains three gaming tables and has some space around the bar. This area is perfect for demonstration games and also has the signing up sheets for each session.

On the lower section, where the lift is situated, there are four cells, yes-real cells that used to house miscreants and ne’er-do-wells, that make excellent gaming rooms. They are big enough to fit seven gamers into and are quite cosy, though players may struggle to walk around freely in them. They are also sound proof so are ideal for getting the game atmosphere just right.

The Armoury

The Armoury is located across the courtyard from the main building near the hotel’s reception.

It is a large single, cavernous room with a high arched ceiling and thick strong walls so the Armoury is nice and quiet. Inside are three gaming tables that can be rearranged to suit the gaming group.

The Cell

Deep inside the gaolhouse at the dark bottom of the building is the Cell. Getting down there through the twisting stairways is an adventure itself though it has another entry way from the hotel’s courtyard. It is a large room with a long bench seat along the length of the room. Three gaming tables are in here, each host to the 'Cthulhu Mythos'.
