  1. I would personally stick away from ADSL like the plauge - The reason why you have had intermitent connectivity is a common trait of that technology - BT are currently upgrading their network and exchanges to cope with faster speeds up to 25meg but to get the quoted speeds given by people like Tiscali, Plus Net, Bt etc.... you literally need to be living ontop of the exchange!

I know from experience Sheffield has patchy cable rollout but if you can get Cable then I would definatly take that up - Genuine speeds up to 20meg. Alright you might not sometimes get 20meg, maybe 19 or 18meg depending on the ratio's at there switches 1:50 is common meaning 1 switch and 50 users (applies to lower end cable packages like 2 and 4megs but I know when they had it as 10meg they had better ratio's 1:10 rings a bell.

The less users on a switch the better speeds you are going to get but the benefits of cable over adsl is that the signal doesn't decrease once its left the switch which is why you are mostly finding slower speeds than you get quoted in the adverts.

  2. Well done on getting the telephone interview!

I recently applied for a position at HSBC, I didn't get a telephone interview - but was invited for an assesment interview over in Ellesmere Port. HSBC along with other major banks work on the same principle. They want to know details around 4 or 5 key areas. Also known as competencies - These can include various areas of current and past positions at work, an event in your life where you had to show skill etc.. a few others but at the moment I cant remember... - and how you deal with particular senarios. One thing I would highly recommend when you are on the telephone is to stand up! I know this might sound strange!!! but when you stand up on the phone you naturally smile which does covey over the phone - smiling while you are answering the questions will make you sound interested in the subject and also the job you are applying for.

The type of questions they ask and level of detail needed depends on the job you are applying for with them - With me having previous experience before I went for the assesment interview allowed them to ask me particular questions relating to the job - You didn't mention whether you were already a chashier with another company or not. On the questions the best way of answering the question is using the S.T.A.R Principle. If you PM me your email address, I will send you a word document detailing that. Its too much to put into this message.

It might be worth while before they ring you up to make notes to jog your memory on good points about yourself such as being enthusisastic, hard working, a people person, lovable personality. In my experience of HSBC, before I was went to the assessment interview I was given a debrief by someone out of Human Resources or where ever she was. It might be worth while given HSBC a call and see whether they are able to provide you with a 4/5 competencies which they want answers to - That way you will know roughly what they are requiring from you.

  3. No ive not messed anything up or got partitions.

What the problem is (never experienced this before) is im using a raid card. Been running great for the last year. 4 drives with striping. But its started to get clogged up with rubbish so I decided to format it. Did exactly the same as I have ever done. Pressed F6 for external driver. Used the same disc as before for the drivers. Then usually update them in windows if needed. But got into the setup area and instead of usually displaying 1 drive of 132gb (because its in raid) it shows 4 seperate drives and there capacities! Really queer. Whats even more weird is that Its showing they are raided in the raid bios. but when im in the windows setup area they all appear seperate. Which is why its appeared as F:. The other drives arnt connected at the moment. Ive deleted the raid and just running this one 40gb drive on Raid Channel 1 - Primary Lead. Suggestions would help

  4. Hello,

Just come across a problem. Basically ive reformatted my pc. Using Windows Xp Pro. My problem is my normal C: drive is F:

Now I cant change the drive letter in Computer Management from F: to C: because its the main drive, boot up etc..

Now I was wondering whether someone could possibly provide me with an MSDOS command which would allow me to change the drive letter?

    Many thanks Rick Miles

  5. Hello all. Ive got a predicament at the moment, im needing a program which ive used before but ive delted it. Now I come to need it again I can't remember what its called. Bascially what the program does is make a pagefile in my docs or where ever and this enables any operating system that you install through this program to use this special page file. Anyone have any idea what the program is called. I know two companies make this type of program. Microsoft makes it but they got the idea from another company. Many thanks Rick!

The reason that the cutting edge sculpture had bad press was because the work was given to a Bristol manufacturing company when really it should have been made in Sheffield. It was offered to companies to build at the best possible price. The Sheffield companies which it was offered to couldnt make it cheap enough so instead a Bristol company gave the best price for the work and so it was given to task of making it.

The driving position is set high and the drive itself is very enjoyable. Also, the alloys look lush! I would probably opt for the TDCi but the 1.4 petrol is a decent engine.

They are bringing out a sporty ST model before Christmas, so if you have the cash and the will for speed it might pay to wait a month or so.

Yea I know aswell as the new Zetec S. But im using my car at the moment as a trade in to reduce the price ;-)

All the main developments seem to have worked apart from the music centre and I'm sure we can look forward to even more fantastic facilities to come.

I may even begin to say to people that I'm from Sheffield, soon.

Well if you live in Wigan, where would you rather say you are from? Sheffield or Wigan?

    (Btw I am from Sheffield)
