Hi Sarah The reason I'm looking for someone who was in the manor militaires is that in 1986 the BBC did a project called Domesday when they asked people to write about their local area and someone wrote about the Manor Militaries and about them marching in Sheffield and we want to speak to someone on Radio Sheffield about the group. The Domesday project is being revisited 25 years later and we are looking for people to update the entries with details of what life is like in 2011.   2. The BBC is looking for anyone who was involved with The Manor Militaires during the 1980's for the Domesday reloaded project. In 1986 people were asked to write about their local areas for a the BBC Domesday project and one of the entries is all about The Manor Militaires.   4. Just a reminder that the BBC is holding auditions this Friday and Saturday for musicians for a BBC project called a Symphony for Yorkshire. Composer Benjamin Till is writing the Symphony and we are holding open auditions across the county for people who play all sorts of instruments - from guitars to violins & piano. We are also looking for anyone who plays anything a bit unusual. Are there any buskers who would like to take part? The premier of A Symphony for Yorkshire will be aired on BBC Look North and on the BBC local radio stations Sheffield, York, Leeds and Humberside on Yorkshire Day, August 1st 2010. Your poem does not have to rhyme but it does need to be original. It should be between eight and 12 lines long, describing exactly what Yorkshire means to you. "We are looking for something a little unusual, something creative, with some flair - but also something that people around the county will recognise and respond to," said the Head of BBC Yorkshire, Helen Thomas. "The winner's verse will be set to music, composed by Benjamin Till - the man behind the Coventry Market and Watford Gap musical." To take part enter send us your lyrics, verses or poems by email. Saturday 6th March 10am-12.30pm Sheffield artist Joe Scarborough will be selling and signing prints of his picture of the Children's hospital, Sheffield in the Winter Gardens on Saturday 6th March in aid of the BBC Sheffield Kids Scanner appeal. The prints show three floors of the hospital including the A&E department, the ICU department, and the WRVS snack bar. Joe will be in the Winter gardens between 10am-12.30pm.   7. On Thursday 25th February join BBC Sheffield's Your Country presenter Allan Watkiss for an concert in aid of the BBC Sheffield Kids Scanner appeal. Playing at the concert will be three local acts The Carolann B Band fronted by Yorkshire's ' First lady of country' Carolann B from Rotherham, Gunsmoke from Doncaster and legendary Doncaster duo Phil and Ken. The gig is taking place at Hallam Union, The Hubs, Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2QQ from 7.30pm. Tickets are free but donations of £10 are suggested to the BBC Sheffield kids scanner appeal. BBC Sheffield are raising half a million pounds for a new CT Scanner at the Children's hospital, Sheffield. Tickets are available in person during office hours from BBC Sheffield reception, 54 Shoreham Street, Sheffield, S1 4RS or by sending a SAE to the above address.
  8. The steel city has seen some fierce rivalry on the football pitch - now Kevin Blackwell and Brian Laws are going to play out a battle of the minds. The two managers have agreed to take part in a special charity edition of the long running quiz A Question of South Yorkshire Sport, organised by BBC Radio Sheffield. They'll be joined by Radio Sheffield's Paul Walker and Seth Bennett, plus two other special sporting guests. Quizmaster will be Look North's Harry Gration. All money raised will go towards the BBC Sheffield Kids' Scanner Appeal for the Children's Hospital in Sheffield, and you can be part of this unique event. It takes place at the Pennine Lecture Theatre at Sheffield Hallam University on Thursday 10th December. Tickets are free but a donation of at least £5 is being requested per ticket. Doors open at 7.30pm for a recording that starts at 8.15pm and the entire show will be broadcast on Radio Sheffield the following weekend, on Sunday 13th December at 1pm.   9. BBC Blast is coming to Sheffield on Wednesday 4th, Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June. Blast offers a range of free workshops for young people aged 13-19 in various aspects of the arts and media from Film Making and Creative Writing to Dance and Fashion. Blast will operate out of the state-of-the-art Blast Tour Truck, which will be stationed at Devonshire Green. It comprises a TV studio, VT/audio editing area, digital workshop space and a performance area. We’re currently looking for young people to participate in the workshops.   10. BBC RaW is holding a family story event at the BBC Open Centre, 54 Shoreham Street, Sheffield on Tuesday 29th January 11am-3pm. During the day people will be encouraged to have a go at creating a short story for children. There will also be a professional storyteller on hand to entertain the children and encourage the adults to get involved in the BBC RaW campaign.
