  1. Hi, I'm likely to return to work in the next few months and after much deliberation have concluded a nanny would work well. I really need some advice from a nanny or parent. I've worked out total annualised hours average 25 per week. My question is, is it best to pay for hours worked or average pay over the year? I need ofsted registration which I'd contribute to if not held. I would need cover for mornings (breakfast and school drop off). After school pick up and meal preparation (children), full days cover in school holidays. The holiday entitlement would have to be confirmed if and when I get said job! But would at least be minimum of 5.6 weeks. Children are 4 and 7. What kind of hourly rate should I expect to pay for this?
  2. I think this is an issue that leads employers back to using agencies. i would suggest using sites such as indeed, the jobcentre website, if you have a website add the vacancy. Depending on the sector, vas.org.uk is another good one. I do think the jobcentre has the potential to offer a solution to recruitment processes, they already have so much information about job seekers, yet the private sector are the ones making a profit. I had a look in today's Star, after not seeing the job edition for a long time and was disappointed to see hardly any at all.

  4. Interesting post, I'd like to add my two pennies worth!! My personal opinion on the recruitment process is that it just seems lacking in many ways. Technology and many other factors have progressed our lives yet recruitment seems to be stuck in the dark ages. First of all it appears that the industry for whatever reason has a problem with attracting employees from diverse backgrounds. Agencies seem to be very generic in terms of their own staff make up. Subconscious interview bias does continue to exist, a recent article in People Management questioned how diverse UK business truly is despite all legislative attempts to promote equality and diversity. So if agencies aren't diverse then surely this implies an unfair bias to candidates that are. Recruitment agencies do judge characteristics which may not actually bother the employer, ie single parent and subsequently do not put CV's forward based on their personal bias. I've been told by consultants that they are not interested in people looking to change career, so only interested in putting square pegs into square holes. How very dull. This attitude not only stifles innovation but also prevents employers from having access to candidates that may fit very well within their organisation who can draw on past experience and offer new perspectives. The fees paid to agencies could perhaps be better used to raise salaries or train existing staff. I also have had consultants ring me in the past, discuss my past experience, call me in to register, do typing tests etc and then turn round and tell me how i'll struggle to get work in the desired field.
  5. Hi, my last post was removed as I assumed I didn't make it clear I was looking for work experience rather than touting for business! I'd like to know if anyone could advise if they would be willing to offer work experience in HR. I'm due to complete CIPD HR Practice certificate in the next month and in the past I've had several years experience within sales and marketing in various sectors. My CV post children isn't great, and I either get interviews and then pipped to the post by someone with experience of simply don't get interviews at all. I'm frustrated as someone who is capable yet unable to prove it. Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Thanks for this, I'll ask her to check it out. The frustrating thing is the powers that be have the information they just want the easy option by blaming someone rather than looking into their own records.
  7. She changed her license when she moved. She's just really worried about the whole situation, as neither the DVLA, Sheffield City Council or Magistrates seem to be able to find the correct information! It's really worrying as this could happen to anyone, thank goodness the incident wasn't more serious or she could face a lot worse.
  8. She did own a car during 2012. I'm not sure when she changed address with the DVLA, i'll ask!!
  9. Hi, just want to find out if anyone has been in a similar situation and any advice as getting no where! My sister received a call a few months ago from a warrant officer about a debt, she has had an on going dispute with Sheffield City Council about council tax which has just been resolved, she assumed the debt was to do with Council Tax so agreed to pay it. Anyway it then came to light that it wasn't about council tax, and actually about a motoring incident that happened in January 2012. As she agreed to pay, the warrant officer took this as an admission of guilt despite the fact he hadn't told her what the warrant was about. All correspondence about the incident was posted to her previous address where she hasn't lived since 2010, the incident took place in 2012 so she did not live there at this point. The council have told her they do not have a record of her tenancy start or end date so can't prove it. The DVLA will not do anything as the case has already gone to magistrates, it seems no one can help. My sister has never owned the car, has no idea who does and is facing 6 points, a fine and the potential loss of her job over this. She was a tearaway as a teen, but turned things around, and as she said if she had done it she would admit it. It is causing major stress and worry, she has two young children and has no idea what will happen if she is detained after court. It's ironic that perverting the course of justice is an offence yet the DVLA can quite happily do this and get away with it!! So any advice needed, plus if you know anyone driving car registration KY54 HNG, please message me, as if my sister has to take the penalty for a car she never owned, then she will report it stolen as advised by the police. This isn't what she wants, she wants the situation sorting out!!
  10. Hi, sorry for delay in response! We have a total number of 6 full time and 2 part time staff. 4 full time staff need handsets and 2 part time could share hansets as work alternate days. I'm having a look into Voip, thank you for the suggestion!
  11. Hi, I'm working for a small company and we are looking at installing a business telephone system. We don't have any experience in this, I have contaced BT who quoted around £1000 for initial purchase and set up. Ideally looking for a less expensive option and wondered about buying used. Any advice would be very much appreciated!
