About the Venue
The Lyceum Theatre is one of Sheffield’s grandest and most historic theatres, offering an elegant Edwardian setting for some of the best touring productions in the UK. First opened in 1897, the Lyceum is a traditional proscenium arch theatre renowned for hosting major West End musicals, drama, comedy, dance and family shows, alongside blockbuster touring productions. With its richly decorated interior and three-tier auditorium, it delivers a classic theatre-going experience in the heart of Sheffield city centre.
Now part of the Sheffield Theatres complex alongside the Crucible and Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse, the Lyceum has been carefully restored and protected as a Grade II* listed building. It is also firmly established as Sheffield’s home of pantomime, continuing a tradition that dates back to the early 20th century and remains a festive highlight in the city’s cultural calendar. MEAN GIRLS is the laugh-out-loud, high-energy musical comedy direct from the West End — and it’s landing at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield.
Winner of Best New Musical at the WhatsOnStage Awards, this stage adaptation of the cult film brings savage wit, iconic characters and show-stopping songs to one gloriously pink-packed production.
As the show itself puts it: “Get in loser, we’re going to the Lyceum.”
What’s the story?
Welcome to North Shore High, ruled by The Plastics — Regina, Gretchen and Karen — where popularity is power and one wrong move can ruin your social life.
Enter Cady Heron. Home-schooled by zoologist parents, she thinks she understands survival of the fittest — until she meets high school. When Cady plots to take down Regina George, she soon learns you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.
It’s a sharp, hilarious takedown of teenage hierarchies, friendships and finding out who you really are.
Who’s behind the show?
The musical comes from an award-winning creative team, including:
Book by Tina Fey (30 Rock)
Music by Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)
Lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde)
Direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon)
Together, they’ve created a musical that’s as smart as it is spectacular.
