Top Hat the Musical – Sheffield Lyceum

A glittering golden-age musical arrives in Sheffield

The glamour, romance, and sparkle of Hollywood’s golden age come to Sheffield as Top Hat the Musical dances into the Lyceum Theatre in a major touring production from Chichester Festival Theatre, presented by Kenny Wax and Jonathan Church Theatre Productions.

Effervescent, elegant, and irresistibly entertaining, Top Hat is the musical equivalent of vintage champagne — filled with witty dialogue, show-stopping choreography, lavish sets, and gorgeous costumes.

A classic love story with mistaken identity

When Broadway star Jerry Travers arrives in London to open a new show, he immediately catches the attention of model Dale Tremont — though not in the way he intended. After Jerry’s tap dancing disrupts Dale’s beauty sleep, romance quickly blossoms… only to be complicated by mistaken identities, jealous spouses, and a fiery Italian admirer with plans for Venice.

Based on the classic 1935 film starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, the stage version delivers timeless comedy and swooning romance in equal measure.

Songs you know and love

Featuring music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, the score includes some of the greatest songs in musical theatre history, including:

  • Cheek to Cheek

  • Let’s Face the Music and Dance

The stage adaptation premiered in the West End to huge acclaim, winning the 2013 Olivier Award for Best New Musicaland the Evening Standard Award for Best Night Out.
