2:22 A Ghost Story is a modern supernatural thriller that has become a global stage phenomenon, now appearing at the Lyceum in Sheffield as part of its major UK and Ireland tour.

After seven West End seasons, a record-breaking tour, and more than thirty productions worldwide, this gripping play brings suspense, humour and psychological tension together in a story that asks one unsettling question: what do you believe?

Who wrote it – and why is it so popular?

The play is written by Danny Robins, creator of the hit BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist.

Winner of Best New Play at the WhatsOnStage Awards, 2:22 A Ghost Story has built its reputation on clever writing, sharp dialogue, and an atmosphere that keeps audiences guessing right to the end.

Past productions have featured high-profile cast members including Lily Allen, Cheryl, Stacey Dooley, Tom Felton, Jake Wood and James Buckley. (Casting for the Sheffield run is yet to be announced.)

What’s the story?

Jenny believes her new home is haunted. Every night, at exactly 2:22am, she hears something she can’t explain.

Her husband Sam is a sceptic. When their dinner guests — old friend Lauren and her new partner Ben — arrive, belief and doubt clash over food and drinks. As the night unfolds, tensions rise, secrets surface, and something feels increasingly wrong.

They decide to stay awake until 2:22…

And then they’ll know.
