Little Shop of Horrors – Westbourne School (Montgomery Theatre, Sheffield)

A cult musical comedy blooms on the Montgomery stage

Westbourne School brings the darkly comic musical favourite Little Shop of Horrors to the Montgomery Theatre in this energetic amateur production — a perfect blend of comedy, catchy songs and monstrous fun.

Presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International, this classic musical remains one of the most popular and entertaining shows for young performers and audiences alike.

What’s the story?

Down on Skid Row, kind-hearted florist Seymour works in a run-down flower shop for the grumpy Mr Mushnik, nursing a crush on his co-worker Audrey.

Everything changes when Seymour discovers a strange and unusual plant — soon named Audrey II — that grows at an alarming rate and becomes a local sensation. But this is no ordinary houseplant.

Audrey II can sing, talk, and make big promises: fame, fortune, and a better life… all in exchange for just one thing.

As the plant’s appetite grows, so do the demands — pulling Seymour into a series of increasingly ridiculous and dangerous situations, involving:

  • A bullying dentist

  • A suspicious boss

  • And a growing realisation that getting everything you want comes at a price

Why audiences love it

Little Shop of Horrors is a cult classic for a reason:

  • Catchy, unforgettable songs

  • Big laughs and cartoonish villains

  • A playful moral about ambition and consequences

  • A story that works brilliantly for families and younger audiences

This production offers a fun, accessible introduction to musical theatre while delivering plenty of comedy for adults too.
