A Platform for Open Discussion
The Festival of Debate was founded in 2015 by Opus Independents to encourage active citizenship and democratic engagement at a time of increasing societal polarisation. It serves as an open platform for people to explore key political, social, and economic issues without partisanship.

Sheffield Food Festival 2025 🍽️🎶One of Sheffield’s biggest free events, Sheffield Food Festival 2025 returns this late May Bank Holiday weekend to showcase the city's finest food, drink, and music. Expect a bustling exhibition of over 60 food and drink traders, many from the local area.

Live music at Leopold Square: The Power Trio, Emily Claire West and Acoustic AngelsThe Power Trio – Saturday 24th May 2025 – 2pm to 4.30pm
Introducing The Power Trio, a dynamic neo-soul/jazz ensemble led by the multi-talented Ryan Taylor. Renowned for his keyboard prowess, soulful vocals and charismatic stage presence, Ryan channels the spirit of James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Cory Henry, Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai and Prince as he masterfully orchestrates the band’s sonic journey. Joined by bass virtuoso Alex McGibbon, whose slap bass artistry pays homage to the golden era of the ’70s and ’80s. Tom Townsend completes the trio with an authenticity and versatility that sets the perfect foundation for floor-filling, festival rocking grooves.
Emily Claire West – Sunday 25th May 2025 – 2pm to 4pm
Emily has been a Leopold Square favourite for the past 15 years. Performing a range of classic soul, Motown and disco, Emily’s incredible vocals and uplifting stage presence is always the perfect complement to sunny afternoons in The Square.
BANK HOLIDAY SPECIAL – Acoustic Angels – Monday 26th May – 2pm to 4.30pm
Sheffield’s favourite acoustic band, playing hits from the northern soul/Motown era right up to present day. Led by John Reilly, the Acoustic Angels feature some of the best players around – Shaun Perry, Darren Ford, Cary Bayliss and Steve Beighton.
