holymoses
When the people of Sheffield rally for a cause there’s no stopping the amount of goodwill and generosity they show. Even if it means pouring buckets of ice water over their heads. This was proved without a doubt on Sunday 24 th of August by the 1000 Bucket challenge. Organised by Michael Brocklebank who lost his wife Natalie Brocklebank in June this year to Motor Neurone Disease (MND) she was 29. Held on Handsworth Recreation ground, local residents, friends and family succeeded to hit the one thousand bucket challenge in relays. Few people know that Macmillan care for patients with MND as well as cancer, to help both charities the fund raising continued in to the evening with a Spectacular Rock session at the Old Crown, Handsworth, with many of the Ice Bucketeers joining the fun. Over 300 local resident, pub regulars and friends and families got together to raise funds for the very worthy cause Macmillan Cancer Support. The Fabulous Dave Van Keay's hosted the event, with music provided by Handsworths very own Mr Simon Platts and his Band Zed's Dead. Supported by an acoustic set by Lateral Vision, Russ Tonks on Classical Guitar, Lee Mack Vocalist and 3 desperados; Dave Van Keays, Russ and Wayne Carr. Along with a very loud set from the Kings of No Rehearsal Dave Van Keays, Vic Skelton, Simon Clark, Ian Pod Pearson and Trev Whittington The event was organised in just four weeks by Jackie Sands, Jackie an Upholstery Designer at Hillsborough based Jenx Ltd, decided to organise the event to support the Macmillan nurses and support the many patients and their families fighting cancer. The Old Crown’s beer garden was overtaken by the event, Pub Landlord Dave Lees stated he was truly overwhelmed with the support and generosity of the locals. He also extends his thanks to his very understanding neighbours for putting up with the music and invites everyone for next year’s charity fun raiser. Jackie and her team of helpers spent the evening selling raffle tickets and promoting the prize auction, with prizes donated from over 100 local businesses. Including Dinner bed and Breakfast for 2 at Mosborough Hall hotel, Bed and Breakfast at the Florentine Hotel, Limousine from 5th Avenue Limousines and Tickets for Viva Tequila Robbie Williams Tribute Night. Ian from Balmoral Wedding Cars kindly donated a £1,000 wedding car package, which was auctioned as a Special Prize has made Daniel and his Bride to be very happy with their very generous winning £500 bid. On the night the Raffle and auction raised over £2500 which ended another moonlit Ice Bucket Challenge being performed by Simon Platts, Roxanne Waller, Jayne Coniston, David Waller and Ian Mason. Jackie would like to thank all involved and states that with the donations still being received we are hopeful to raise over £3000.
