  1. Hi, I'm looking for a decent place to go running in Sheffield, but needs to fit some important requirements:

It needs to be somewhere a car can be parked for free.

It needs to be reasonably flat

    Ideally about 3 mile circuit

Close to either city or Walkley

Somewhere out of the way where I'm not going to bump into chav united or the sheffield soljaz as they like to call themselves :loopy::hihi:

I've done damflask today which was a nice run but want something else similar as when I do the same track over and over I get bored of it, so looking for another one, maybe two tracks to alternate with.

    Thanks....

Ewden stocksbridge/deepcar. 2.8 mile lap. One side on road one side through woods all flat. perfect

  2. What Sheffield really needs is an (online) comprehensive list of gigs (both large and small) that are on in Sheffield. Similar to the one Jumbo records does for Leeds (see link). I can't find any that are comprehensive enough so have to rely on getting the free flyers that have gig lists, which obviously go out of date very quickly. Generalist websites like 'Gigwise' and gigs.co.uk tend to be next to useless for this sort of thing, it needs an organisation with local knowledge/connections to produce such a list.

Would make going to see unsigned/alt bands in Shef a lot easier.

    http://www.jumborecords.co.uk/tickets.asp?sort=date&event_id=10914

I totally agree. As you say though it would take a lot of work to keep up to date and comprehensive enough to serve a purpose. The jumbo site seems brilliant, might be worth dropping them a line and asking how the collate it all, if the editor is interested - can't see why he wouldnt. Thanks for your input mate

  3. Hey dude, i am in a metal band called The Ultimate Kings, i know the genre aint as popular as it used to be but want to try and get some exposure.

It wont let me add the link for the myspace with be only just joining the site so if you can google The Ultimate Kings the myspace page will pop up.

Have only been on a few months but have managed over 100,000 hits. The site is only basic at the min, myspace did an "upgrade" the other day and it wiped out what we had on there to swicth over. We only play music and the guy who designes our site will be upgrading it shortly.

The song Light Of Dawn is only a basic demo that we recorded in our rehearsal room so its not the best quality but its good enough for a demo.

Let me know what you think.

    Jonathan

Ill deffinitely have a look mate. cheers

  4. Hey dude, are you just doing reviews of live gigs or will you review of a band in general?

Jon - Both. Id like to look at covering other projects that relate to music in sheffield too - as well as your run of the mill gig reviews & band features etc

Blue monday - thanks for your views I appreciate it. I must admit I had the same views myself when i first looked at it. it needs to be more accessible and easy on the eye. Problem being there is no money behind the mag - its purely run by people who love doing it. hopefully when I get my feet under the table I can make some suggestions!

    Thanks

  5. I know Victoria Rd but at the bottom it is 217 metres above sea level and at the top it is 222 metres. It is 236 Metres long which when worked out;

    (222-217)/236*100=2.1 % gradient. Trust. :)

Now if you mean Victoria Street then that is a different matter altogether. The figures are, (203-173)/202*100=14.85% gradient.

Whose a clever boy then? Blake Street is 12.4%.

Shame it's not in old Sheffield.

    Now then Grahame!

firstly let me bow down to your superior and quintissential knowledge of gradient percentage! Im not sure whether you are god or have magic powers but your calculation of gradient percentages has left me moist with envy!

however, what do you mean by its not in old Sheffield? Stocky is and always has been in sheffield has it not?! I fear you are about to shoot me down but I must challenge you!

  6. Hellows,

I have recently been "recruited" by the sheffield music scene magazine: http://www.sheffieldmusicscene.info

    and will be reviewing/interviewing gigs/bands & artists.

Firstly I'd like to hear from anyone who has come across/reads the magazine and would love to hear your thoughts on it. what do you like about it & what you would like to see more of?

secondly I'd like to hear from any up and coming artists bands or venue's who would like to get some exposure and Invite me down to some gigs for a snidy snek!

    Thanks

  7. excellent! thanks for that, where was it exactly?

Coming off the flouch roundabout onto langsett - just after the long straight you reach the brow of the hill before you start dropping down towards the speed camera's. Opposite that woodland car park there is a small layby with a greasy spoon, it was just on there. got on my tits really because it made me late for celebrity coach trip!!!!! ha ha hope nobody was in the Lorry though!

  8. This happened about 5:30pm last night. It must have just happened as I was on my way home because I was about 10 cars behind the lorry. It was a massive fire! could only just recognise it as a lorry! then after 5 minutes stuck behind it the lorry blew up! massive explosion. not sure how it happened but had to go through penistone this morning to get on to the woodhead
