er its not stolen:roll:
It belongs to the people of Sheffield. The council are attempting to steal it from us.

I came home from work today to find someone presumably Amey had painted large 20mph signs on our road.I noticed a fresh 20 zone symbol painted on the road of my block today for the first time.
There needs to be proper signs as well. Painted on speed limits on there own are not enforceable.

Direct Cars at Mosborough have sold me quality cars over the years with no after sale problems.
I've bought from them in the past and my father's used them twice. However, some of their cars are better than others. Went to look at an Audi that was covered in stone chips. The price was way too high for a car in that condition.

There are restrictive covenants in the Conveyance, but there aren’t any that prevent or restrict the Council’s ability to sell the property. It should also be noted that, although the purchase was funded by J G Graves, the land was purchased from B A Firth and it was Mr Firth who the Council covenanted with. One of these covenants does, however, create a restriction on use. This states that “… the land hereby conveyed shall at all times hereafter be preserved as an open space wood or park and that no buildings (other than those at present existing) shall at any time be erected thereon except as hereinafter provided…
So on what grounds can they sell the land?

Not at all true. The properties were remortgaged several times, and that's what is now being paid for.
The original loans to build the facilities would have been paid off long ago, and of course we benefited from having those facilities for the past 30 years.
The Games were 25 years ago (1991), not 30 and Don Valley Stadium didn't even last that long.

From the Charities Commission:
'The Charity Commission has reviewed our position as to whether we would need to authorise the trustee of Graves Park to sell Cobnar Cottage. We have concluded that the charity’s governing document does not contain an express prohibition. The trustee can rely on the statutory power available (contained in section 6 of the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act) because the proportion of Cobnar Cottage in relation to the size of the charity’s land will not affect the ability to carry out the purposes of the charity.
The Charity Commission does not need to make a scheme to authorise the proposed sale, and does not need to be involved in the sale process.
I hope this is helpful in explaining the position?
Kind regards, Siobhan'
Sadly it looks like that is that
No mention of the land being sold. There may well be nothing expressly prohibiting the sale of a building. There are restrictions regarding the sale of land. I think 'Siobhan' (no surname, who is she, does she exist?) is trying to fob us off.

I thought they did but not seen anything this year, I have been to Sheffield at Christmas time before for Xmas market, tbh this year we there are a few nice stalls I was let down to see a mobile phone stall in one of them (outside Marks and Sparks)
That stall was there for you to celebrate your season of consumerism.

There are plenty of things (Christmas trees, crackers, turkey, mulled wine, etc.) that have nothing to do with the religious side of Christmas, but they are a damned sight more festive than a big truck full of sugary fizzy pop.

No such bird as a "seagull".
But there is a brand of watch called Seagull which is ironic considering the thread title.

The air raid sirens will scare the **** out of anyone that's watched Threads.

If it can be "refinanced", why didn't they get it right in the first place?
Is this an admission that they aren't very good at "financing" things?
If you took out a 25 year mortgage and after 5 years interest rates were much lower would you (a) carry on paying the same each month or (b) negotiate a mortgage for the remaining 20 years at a lower rate?

Bizarre doesn't even come close...
... it's OK to have a go at the big-boy multi-nationals, the council, the local newspaper... but not the back street cowboys!
Also, if a business gives a good service we're allowed to name them. Are we allowed to name a company that is merely average? Where do the moderators draw the line?

The HSBC bank at Tankersley is in actual fact a nuclear bunker.
I had a look round once when working for them. The computers underground are protected. The walls at ground level are angled to deflect the blast upwards. The staff who mainly work above ground would be wiped out.

Could have been a terrorist attack
Could have been a sixteen year old bus with knackered electrics.

Meanwhile, lets carry on littering the streets with our expensive chunks of stainless steel status indicators, that spend maybe 10% of the their time in use, and the rest of it cluttering up the place with their bulky ugliness.
Do you drive a Delorean?

No matter how many times it gets pointed out, the willingly blind still refuse to accept the fact that roads get paid for out of general taxation and not out of the now long-gone road tax.
Yes, there's no road tax but there is VED, fuel duty, VAT on fuel and duty, insurance tax, VAT on vehicles, VAT on servicing, VAT on parts. I think we pay more than enough into 'general taxation' to expect a bit more of it to be spent on roads.
...cities in the UK... ChesterfieldThe crooked cathedral
A couple of days ago a cyclist hurtling down my road...At least he was on the road. I've nearly been run over several times by cyclists on footpaths. One was a policeman
Can you give an example of a city you wouldn't think of driving into?London

All taxis have a stringent taxi mot every 12 months, older vehicles have one every 6 months and they are more strict compared to a normal car mot otherwise they don't get issued a taxi plate.
Presumably not stricter emissions tests going by the black smoke coming from some of the black cabs. I don't know how they pass any form of MOT. Are they using VW software?

the reason given were they are short staffed,
What are he and his staff doing on a Sunday afternoon that's so important that they can't leave the office?

Try Williams on Woodseats http://www.williams-electrical.co.uk/information/aboutus. John Lewis sent my parents' TV there when it needed a repair under warranty. Can't comment whether they are cheap, but they fixed the problem and the TV's going strong several years later.

If people don't want to shop in Sheffield Monday to Saturday, why would they want to do so on Sunday?

And when Sheffield has public transport spending per head equivalent to London maybe we can introduce such measures here.
