  1. We moved from Sheffield to Worksop five years ago. Have never regretted it for a moment. We have personally not been affected by any crime but Worksop is no better or worse than anywhere else. There are things we miss about Sheffield, the choice of restaurants and bars, the theatres, John Lewis. However Sheffield city centre is 35 minutes away by train, Meadowhall half an hour's drive and the A57 improvements should reduce this. House prices are lower, we sold and bought at the same price but went from a 3 bed semi to a 4 bed detached. There are plenty of shops, all the main chains are here, B&Q, Wicks, Matalan etc etc. Good market, some nice farm shops/cafés. Yes, the town centre is quiet at night but the recent opening of the cinema is encouraging. Do your research, come and have a look around at different times and have an open mind. It is unfair to try to compare a small market town to a large city like Sheffield.

  2. Bennett College was on Melbourne Avenue in Broomhill. About halfway down I think. It was a correspondence school. My mother worked there in the 50s/early 60s and I had a Saturday job there - filing! The college offered courses in a number of subjects and the pupils came from all over the world, many from Africa. They received lessons and returned them completed for marking, presumably there was some sort of qualification but I don't know. The college employed a considerable number of local women as secretaries most of whom worked part time to fit in with families. I don't know when it closed but I don't suppose there are many ex-employees left now.
