  1. Alfas are so unreliable.......*rolls eye* Can only be said by someone who hasnt owned a modern Alfa.

Autoexpress drive power 2013 awards the Guiletta in the top 10 best cars. Our Alfa is now approaching 6 years old and the only parts that have failed are the General Motors parts.....e.g. the EGR valve. some people need to leave the 80's and early 90's illusions in the past!

My 2001 punto also has given me no problems in the past 2 years. only routine maintenance required.....e.g. servicing and Cambelt! My brother Audi And his corsa before that on the other hand....

  2. doesnt make him know the ins and out of a fiat, or the common problems with the car or any special bits that need more care and attention

As above, I highly recommend Garath, he has a passion for alfa and fiat, and as stated above he does rebuild and races his alfas. Garath does have a very good knowledge, especially as we dont own the most common of cars. Try dropping him an email or giving him a call to discuss the problems first. He is by far the best mechanic we have used. He is also highly recommended on other forums.

Tbh, most specalists are better than most dealers in one way or another!!

  3. My Partner and I lived on Westminster before we had to leave Sheffield for work reasons. We are both in our early to mid 20 s. The views are amazing esp from the house, air is fresher and I felt completely safe. Im Sheffield born qnd bred, but my Partner was brought up in North Yorkshire. Even he liked the rural feeling with the convenience of the city. We would move back in a heart beat. We miss the community feeling and knowing the neighbour! Our new place nobody seems to talk to anyone!

Just make sure you are preapred for the snow!

  4. It may just be the bottom of the tank when there is an issue due to water and fuel displacement. When new tanks are installed they are washed to get rid of any inpuraties before there is a delivery of fuel.

As said above, bad batches of fuel can happen at any station, we recently filled up in a well known big branded fuel station in a village in South Wales. 5 miles later the car is eating fuel at double what it should do, lacking power and not sounding too healthy. Luckly it was only £10 to get us to somewhere where fuel is reasonably priced. Again filled up with the same companies fuel this time half a tank old fuel runs out and the car behaves how it should. Its luck of the draw!

However, I cannot comment as to the quality of the Petrol, however, we have been told by our car dealer that our warrenty would be void on the fuel system/ injectors etc if they traced supermarket fuel in the system.

Most manuals and manufacturers state that more than 5% bio diesel is outside their recommendations. This recommendation comes from the makers of most injector manufacturers e.g. Bosh to the dealers.

Poorer fuels also cause problems on modern cars with EGR systems as the extra soot and causes these to get coked up and fail, leading to a nice bill.

People need to be aware of the bio-diesel content of diesel and if their car is under warrenty what / if any fuels invalidate the same. We were shocked to find this out from our dealer. We have noticed that at a few dealers (we have moved a few times) that there are signs up behind the service desk saying supermarket fuel invalidates the warrenty. As for the full reasons I do not know.

Yes it is a pain when fuel is 2 - 3p less than the branded fuels and we get handed one of those lovely money off vouchers after shopping, however, we cannot afford a big repair bill just becase we invalidated the warrenty, so we choose not to use them out of a just incase.

  5. Hi,

Unfortunately he did not have a collar on as he had wriggled out of it a few days before. He was last seen a week yesterday in Walkley around teatime.

I now have access to a photo just need to log onto my conputer. I will do that asap.

  6. Thank you for all your advice! I will followb all these up. We have been preparing posters today with a picture of him on. My friend just thought he might be out wandering or lock in a garage, which is why he waited until today before going on a full search.

    Thank you all again.

  7. Oscar has not been seen for over a week. He is a full tabby cat.

His owner is very worried as he has special dietry requirements and normal cat food can cause him harm. His disappearance is out of the norm for him.

He is a very friendly cat and is microchipped.

If anyone has any information please PM me and I will contact his owner.

I will upload a photo of him later when I have access to do so.

    Thank you :)

  8. Are you sure this is true as i would think that by law they would have to state that the fuel they sell is not fully diesal.

all diesel has some amount of bio diesel in just varies supplier to supply the amount. Bosh and most manufacturers have a tolerance and recommend around 5%. Supermarkets and a couple of other stations run more. I think the law allows up 10% or soon will.

I know Alfa test for supermarket fuel as our car went in for a judder on idle and its the first thing they asked as bosh dont take the injectors back after a warranty claim. Having been to a few garages some have the signs up behind the servixe desk. Obviously, each manufacturer has different policies, so only speaking from my experiences and contact.
