  1. I'm going to Maltby-le-Marsh soon, near Oham Lakes. Years ago these used to be a well known (big) carp fishery. I've tried researching them on the 'net but can't find a home page. What information there is, largely dries up after 2013. The few reviews since then are flimsy (such as: great fishing) and don't give details of species, sizes, etc. Anyone have any up-to-date info please?

  2. I have worked on EU funded projects, so... unfortunately you found the wrong topic to call me a troll.
So have I, so my comment stands. The difference is I didn't feel the need to try to impress people with my credentials. This is a public forum open for anyone to give their views/opinions without automatically being shouted down and abused by trolls and self-appointed experts like yourself. I suspect you must be retired as, due to the amount of time you spend on the forum, you can't have much time left for work.
  3. Ah, an expert. I assume you worked on many EU funded research-projects in the past? It isn't just the money that comes with it, it is the infrastructure and the ability to research something cross border, with other European researchers.
Unlike you, I only post on subjects I know something about. I don't troll and comment on just about every post on the forum. To-date you have made 10,521 posts - you must think you are the font of all knowledge. :suspect::suspect:
  4. Scotland is only of benefit while the relationship is stable. Each time that Scotland looks to vote on the issue then that destabilises the union. IMO it would be reasonable for the rest of the UK to say "We are sick of you vacillating on this as it harms everyone else. Stay if you wish, but we will reduce the flow of money going to Scotland to be fair to everyone else in the union. We should not be subsidising you as we have done in the past. Accept that, or go."
I agree. Scotland gets £1600 p.a. per head more than England from the government. We are subsidising them.

I would suggest that, if Scotland does have another referendum, in the interests of fairness, it should be run in tandem with an English referendum: "Do you want Scotland to remain part of the UK".

Nope. That is the North West.

Can I point out that the University of Sheffield has received hundreds of millions from the EU for groundbreaking research and innovation. One of the big receivers was the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, this creates jobs like crazy for the local economy through its spin-offs, I know several people who have started a business and created jobs via the AMRC.

Will be sad when the funding for it, or future expansion disappears, but hey, we voted now.

Why keep spreading these myths. The University of Sheffield did not get money from the E.U. The E.U. only acted as a middleman and gave the U of S some of the money paid in by the UK (less its "admin fee", of course).
  5. How am I in denial? If we get a Norway deal I will be delighted. It's the best I can hope for since Brexit. But if we get a Norway deal it will be seen as a huge failing for the Brexit voters.
Why would we want a "Norway" deal? We want our own, UK deal. Norway forged their own deal, not modelled on someone elses. Why shouldn't we?
  6. No-one is spitting dummies out on the Remain side. But you Brexiters seem to be panicking that we are right. Are you starting to get worried you voted the wrong way then?
A classic case of self-denial. I am VERY HAPPY I voted the right way (to leave). You must realise how arrogant your statement is - that over half the people who voted are wrong, but little you, is right.

I am also very happy at all the problems the Labour and Conservative parties are now suffering. It may shake them up enough so that they now come out of their elitist London-orientated bubble and start focusing on the real world.

For anyone interested in EU Trade deals with other parts of the world (not involving free movement of labour):

  7. I think Gove and Boris need to have a chat and make sure they are on the same page of the "How to Brexit" handbook. Boris still thinks we're having access to the single market, which of course requires free movement of labour,
Why do people keep saying this? No-one yet knows what our agreement with the EU will be. I'm sick of these prophets. Countries in other parts of the world have, or are negotiating, trade deals with the EU that don't involve free movement of labour. Will the "remainers" please stop spitting your dummies out, respect the referendum result, get on with your lives and let the negotiations take place before criticising the outcome.
  8. If your insurance is fully comp can't you claim through your insurer? They should then claim from the fishery owner. A better idea might be to threaten the fishery owner with doing that. If he pays you out directly it will save him the hassle and you, your no-claims.

  9. This definitely looks like a great recipe for negotiations and trading transitions that will span multiple parliaments.
Why? As said earlier: The UK just has to agree to allow the Germans, French, Italians, etc sell their goods in the UK. The same as the EU needs to agree to allow the UK to sell its goods in Europe. Simple trade deal! No need to be any more complicated than that. (Tit for Tat)
  10. Many years ago, one of my neighbours reported drug dealing taking place every night in a car park across the road. The police told her they knew about it and would sooner have it happening there, where they knew, than somewhere else that they didn't know about.

What is the point of that? I thought the police were supposed to enforce the law! Nowadays it is like the police make the law by choosing which to enforce and which to ignore.

  11. 25% of the NHS workforce are immigrants. So if vote leavers are voting on this basis, they're destroying the NHS that the leave camp have promised another £100 million per week funding.
What makes you think the immigrant NHS workers would leave? Surely they came to the UK for a better life. There is no reason for their lifestyle to change if "Out" wins so why would they choose to leave?
  12. I don't think that £75k plus generous expense qualifies as "little financial gain". I also despair of the greasy pole climbers who won't give a straight answer to simple questions.

The good MPs are well worth their pay. There are a good many, though, who are not.

A great answer and one I agree with. I'd also like to add too many MP's have no convictions and/or integrity and say what they believe will make them appear on your side, whether they mean it or not. Being an MP is a good, well-paid career and maintaining and progressing in that career seems to be their main objective - not the good of the country and its citizens.
