  1. Just wondering if anyone can help, Ive heard the Nelson is a pretty good pub, and after being very dissapointed with a recent visit to the Dove and Rainbow Im looking for somewhere else to go this saturday with a friend.

I cant seem to find a website so was just wondering if anyone knows if its open during the day on Saturday and what the prices are like.

    Cheers

Do you work for the nelson?? i never heard anyone complain about the dove, far from it, the staff and landlord are the most friendly people you can ever meet unlike the bar you seem so up for hyping for no reason on here, and the music is totally down to what you ask for unlike the other bar.

  2. After having some meetings and discussing Rebels we have decided to put it on hold for now. A few factors have made us come to this decision.

one been as was pointed out in another post the students arent here and most clubs feel the brunt of it when they have gone.

the second is after hearing for the past few years people complaining about corp and wishing they had somewhere else to go, for all their talk they just end up like sheep and follow the crowd, now im not going into whats been said on the grapevine about the future rock scene here but it would be a shame for us to have no rock club. end of the day to make things work places need bums on seats as things do cost money to run.

also the smoking ban, we want to see how this affects bars and clubs as i saw in manchester monday the affect it had on trade over there. i know some places here have had outdoor areas made which is a good thing, but some have just stuck a few table and chairs next to their bins, and i dont think people want to sit next to that all night and keep watch for rats.

now rebels will be back later in the year and maybe not at the same venue as we want to cater for the smokers and already have an idea where it will go so keep your eyes peeled and watch this space.

in the meantime myself, jozafeen, the rest of team batfink and the staff at rebels want to thank everyone that has been and those that showed support (big shout out to the dove and rainbow) and we will see you soon once more.

    peace and love y'all

  3. Just a quick update, The Tube Bar is no longer part of Rebels and is now seperate from us. It will be an indie bar from the direction we hear they want to take it.

See the new Rebels thread for more details.

    peace and love y'all

  4. As from today Team Batfink has taken over the running of Rebels which means we're doing what you rock & alternative people have always wanted and giving you a venue where you call the tunes and we play them for you.

From this friday at 11pm we are giving you rock and the same on saturday, it is now our rock club not baxendales. So there is now no history, its a fresh start, anybody that is fed up with the predictable playlist of anywhere else give us a shot friday or saturday!!

We are in the process of sorting out draught booze for the bar and other drinks stuff, and catering as much as we can to make you happy.

Come along as we want to keep this venue going for the rock scene of sheffield!!

    love and peace y'all

  6. After going in Rebels the 1st couple of weeks and really enjoying it I thought I would go last night and take some of my friends in as I was sure they would like it.

What on earth has happened to the good mix of both classic rock and new all we heard was new stuff.

My friends dont go to the Corp because of this problem I dont think they will be back to Rebels now in any hurry.

I like some of the new stuff but dont want to hear it all night and when it turned it to the totally crap American Pop Rock (Green Day etc) we left.

Bring back the orignal DJ is all I can say.

Sorry to hear you didnt like the music saturday, but i did play a mix of old and new (just been looking at the setlist), and yes i did get request for some new rock, i'll post the set list soon for you to see the mix that was played. End of the day we were ment to shut at 3am and people didnt want to leave and cheered for more so we went on till 3.20am till i called it a day. Oh and i am an original Rebels dj, thursdays and fridays at the old club, im saying no names but do you really want a certain dj that bigs himself up more on the mic than the music every 5 mins?

But music does move on as do punters choice in music. I'm here to take your requests at the end of the day to make your night your night and if we havent got it on the night we make sure its there the week after. Its a fineline now days with all the different styles going on to please everyone, but everyones input is more than welcome and taken on board.

peace and love to ya all.

  7. If anyone has seen in the legal section in the Sheffield Star Kingdom is after a gambling licence. But its all very well going on what it is or isnt going to be its going to be knocked down, i live in the city centre and loads of buildings including Kingdom, Casbah, and loads in that area have compulsory purchase orders awaiting on them to make way for the new look city centre, a lot of places are doing work on their buildings to get a higher payout from the council when the time comes, so enjoy it while you can it when it opens.

  8. This friday see's Sheffield's MANTANK and Bradford's New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack playing live at The Nelson Rock Bar.

Mantank have had demo of the month plus rave reviews in Sheffield's Sandman magazine with their blend of metal/rock/indie hybrid music, if you wanna catch one band to watch out for its this band.

N.Y.A.A.A. recently appeared in the free Diverge music magazine with with the mag telling you how they are the new face of authentic underground, and are been scouted by major record companies, indies, big showbiz lawyers, etc.

They have made an E.P. produced and recorded by justin Sullivan of New Model Army called Dismorphia.

Bands will be kicking off at 9pm, and only costs a quid to get in dowstairs, whilst upstairs is free with D.J Moth Boy playing all the best in guitar oriantated music.
