About the Venue
The Montgomery Theatre is a historic, community-focused arts venue in Sheffield city centre, with a proud tradition of championing creativity for children, families and local communities. In January 2025, the Montgomery officially joined the Sheffield Theatres family of venues, strengthening its role as a leading participatory arts centre for young people across South Yorkshire. Today, it hosts a lively programme of amateur and professional performances, youth theatre, workshops and holiday activities, alongside many of Sheffield Theatres’ education and participation strands.
Housed in a landmark building dating back to the 19th century, the Montgomery takes its name from poet, reformer and hymn writer James Montgomery, whose belief in the power of art to drive social change still shapes the venue’s ethos. The theatre features a 420-seat auditorium and is available for hire by amateur dramatic societies and community groups. With equality, inclusion and access to cultural education at its heart, the Montgomery remains a vital social and creative hub for Sheffield.

Upcoming Events
The Makings of a Murderer: The Undercover Detective is a gripping live true-crime event featuring Peter Bleksley, one of the founding members of Scotland Yard’s undercover unit and a former star of Hunted.
This is a rare chance to hear, first-hand, what it really takes to infiltrate criminal gangs and investigate murder at the highest risk level.
What stories will Peter Bleksley share?
Drawing on more than a decade working undercover, Peter reveals the harsh realities of a double life spent posing as:
Drug dealers
Organised crime figures
Contract killers
He takes audiences deep inside some of the most dangerous investigations imaginable — including the moment he himself became the target of a murder plot.
Why did his undercover career end?
Peter’s time undercover came to an abrupt end after an FBI-uncovered assassination plot forced him into witness protection. In this live show, he reflects on:
The psychological toll of undercover work
The cost of living among violent criminals
The justice system’s pursuit of murderers — and its limits
These are stories rarely heard outside the police and intelligence world.
What makes this event so compelling?
This is not a lecture or a TV rehash. It’s an unfiltered, adult-only evening of true crime storytelling, combining real investigations with personal risk, moral dilemmas and the chilling reality of murder inquiries.
It’s crime-fighting stripped of glamour — intense, unsettling and unforgettable.
