The spy novel that redefined the genre — now live on stage
A landmark of Cold War fiction arrives in Sheffield as The Spy Who Came In from the Cold is brought to the Lyceum stage in a gripping theatrical adaptation.

For the first time ever, a novel by John le Carré — the undisputed master of modern espionage fiction — is adapted for the theatre. Named in TIME Magazine’s All-Time 100 Greatest Novels, this story changed how the world viewed spies, secrets and moral compromise.
A world of deception, loyalty and betrayal
Set against the fog-laden shadows of the Cold War, the play follows disillusioned British intelligence officer Alec Leamas, who believes he is ready to come in from the cold.

But veteran spymaster George Smiley persuades him to undertake one final mission against the East German Secret Service. Forced deep undercover, Leamas’ convictions are slowly dismantled — and his emotional defences breached — by Liz Gold, a quietly defiant librarian whose compassion threatens to undo everything he believes.

What unfolds is a tense, morally complex thriller that asks:
What does loyalty really mean?
How much truth can survive in a world built on lies?
And who pays the ultimate price for political gamesmanship?
A critically acclaimed stage production
Following a sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre and a hit West End premiere, this powerful adaptation comes to Sheffield for one week only.
Written by: David Eldridge (Beginning, Middle)
Directed by: Jeremy Herrin (People, Places & Things, A Mirror)
This is a tense, intelligent and emotionally devastating piece of theatre — a must-see for fans of political drama, literary adaptations and edge-of-your-seat storytelling.

Based on the best-selling novel by Malorie Blackman, Noughts and Crosses returns to Sheffield in this gripping stage adaptation by Sabrina Mahfouz, directed by Esther Richardson.

Set in a society rigidly divided by race and power, this modern-day Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two young people caught on opposite sides of an unjust system.
The story
Sephy and Callum have grown up together. They sit side by side on a beach, bound by friendship — and something deeper.
