About the Venue

Sheffield City Hall is one of the city’s most prestigious and recognisable live entertainment venues, standing proudly on Barker’s Pool in the heart of Sheffield city centre. Opened in 1932, the building is a Grade II* listed landmark, owned by Sheffield City Council, and renowned for hosting major concerts, comedy, spoken word, classical music and civic events for nearly a century.

Designed in an imposing neo-classical style by architect E. Vincent Harris, the City Hall features a grand portico and a range of performance spaces. The largest, the Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall, seats 2,271 and is famed for its acoustics and historic Willis III concert organ, the largest in Sheffield. Additional spaces include the Ballroom and Memorial Hall, making the venue suitable for everything from large-scale touring shows to conferences and community events. Since January 2025, the venue has been operated by ASM Global, marking a new chapter in its long performance history.

Over the decades, Sheffield City Hall has welcomed some of the world’s biggest names, from The Beatles and Louis Armstrong to Elton John, Kylie Minogue and leading orchestras, comedians and cultural figures. Today, it remains a cornerstone of Sheffield’s live events scene and a flagship venue on the city’s events calendar.
