Death records in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Is there any way of finding out of some one has died? Can you go to the registry office and check recent deaths if you give them a name?

Also, can you find out if they are cremated or buried and if buried, where?

Sorry if this is a bit sketchy but I found out recently that someone I knew may have died but don't know any details.

Thanks

Try Sheffield archives 52 Shoreham Street. Phone 2039395

I tracked down some death records when I was over there last year.

Good luck

Assuming this person has recently died, forget the archives.

Give the register office a call and they will tell you what information is available. The new stuff is on computer and they may help you. Otherwise you may have to pay for an index search.

Assuming the death was registered in Sheffield, you want:

0114 203 9423

[email protected]

They are going to need as much info as possible, such as: full name, date of birth, approximate date of death, last address.

The office is now inside the Town Hall, round the back, on Norfolk Street.

If you ring City Road Crematorium they will know if there was a cremation or burial at City Road, Hutcliffe Wood or any of the council cemeteries and a plot number for you to locate the grave should you wish to go and pay your respects.

I'm not sure what rules apply re: data protection and confidentiality so they may not be able to help but its worth a shot.

Hope its not bad news FetishFairy.
