Hurfield secondary modern school

Recommended Posts

I think there is some confusion about the school(s). Hurlfield Secondary Modern (girls school) became a mixed school about 1970ish and became Ashleigh Comp. Hurlfied Boys mixed and kept the name Hurlfield. This is how I remember it anyway. I started at Hurlfield Girls school in 1967 and left Ashleigh as it was called then in 1972.

I think Hurlfield Girls mixed with City Tech but know we had two buildings after that which were the upper and lower schools. I remember the head teacher when I started was called Mrs Notts. I remember two of my form teachers were Miss Barnett, Mr Pickering, and I remember Mrs Wingrove who I think later became the headteacher.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

gday Alan52.

Kirkie? Looked a bit like Salaman Rushdie, all hair and glasses, always wore a green suit as I recall. His room was on the balcony above main entrance.

Hi everyone

I have not posted for quite some time - fancy setting up a few pints so that we can all meet up for an hour or so? Maybe we could meet up at the Punchbowl - that seems appropriate.

Contact me on [email protected] and we can arrange something.

Regards

Alan Hill

Hi. Just found forum by default and joined after reading list of names posted by escort1.

Amazing how a list of names can evoke so many memories. Left Hurlfield 1973.

Hi, Forum seems to have stuttered to a stop. If anyone calls in please leave a message. Maybe we can keep it going until a few more join in.

I joined in 1968 and left in January 1972 - aged 15. I think the year after - the earliest a person could leave was aged 16.

Hope this helps

Hi Alan

You must have been their for a good stint of my time. I think I joined 1968 and left 1973 aged 17. I knocked around with Darryl Claytor and Keith Clark.

I think I knew just about eveybody in my year but alas where are they now!

Didn't think it possible to lose touch with so many people that seemed part of my life for 4/5 years.

Give me some names and I'll see whether the grey cells can picture 'em

Steve
