cal3549 Â Â 10 #37 Posted July 26, 2007 As a "big TV owner", and a homeowner in general, this is all really frightening. Can I suggest people get burglar alarms? My neighbours were burgled a few years ago, and the police suggested they get an alarm as a deterrent. We now have an alarm too, and whilst there's no garuantees, I do feel safer for having one... stuchyk   10 #38 Posted July 26, 2007 Its really bad. My house is like fort knocks. I don't work everyday but when I do, I find it hard to leave the house without checking everything is locked and alarmed. When I go away, Im completely paranoid and lock every single gate, window etc, put timers on lights and cannot settle. Its really bad having to live like this but its my worst nightmare. I cannot bear the thought of someone invading my privacy like that and helping themselves to my belongings no matter what they are i.e. tv or even something out of the garden.  I can remember when I was a kid and people used to leave their doors unlocked. There was never anything like this then because people respected each others property and belongings.
 Share this content via...
rfs-001 Â Â 10 #39 Posted July 26, 2007 We dont really live in times that are that desperate, there are courses for school leavers to gain a trade or specialise in whatever they like, it just takes the urge to better ones self rather than turning to crime to 'make a few quid'. its lazyness and possibly drug/drink addiction that fuels crime unfortunatly
 Share this content via...
rfs-001 Â Â 10 #40 Posted July 26, 2007 It was suggested by a potential witness that the route the burglars took on leaving my house was onto hadfield road, by the side of the church. cars pass every few seconds from early morning to late at night, casual observers either driving or on foot will have noticed 2 or possibly more people walking across a very busy road with a large and heavy TV, it has been suggested that it along with other stolen property was loaded into either a van or jeep parked on Hadfield Road. If any of the above jogs your memory, please contact Detective Martin Newman of the Moss Way burglary unit on 0114 296 3510, it could be you next? help catch them NOW... critter   10 #43 Posted August 3, 2007 That's shocking, I live in Walkley too. The other day I saw a bunch of teenagers trying to get in a house over the road. I did report this and have photo's of these kids. but I doubt they are the same ones you are looking for by the sounds of it. Hope they catch the robbing gits  Hi, some time between the 1 and the 5 of July my house on Cromwell Street was burgled. Well, I say burgled, they tried to get in through the front, taking off the letterbox in the process and then smashed the backdoor in. They broke th back door in half and must have fled the scene when it came crashing down because nothing appears to have been taken. I do want information if anyone saw this nonetheless because, being abroad, it caused me stress, anxiety and not inconsiderable expense sorting it out and I want them caught. Please PM me with any info you might have.
 Share this content via...

LibertyBell   10 #47 Posted August 3, 2007 I know someone burgled on Rivelin Road recently.  Sounds to me like there is a gang or two targetting the area. I'm confident that the spate will die down, hopefully after they are caught.  Don't be too downhearted. Its no comfort if you're a recent victim but burglary is down significantly in recent years. This used to go on much more.  I think as electrical consumer goods are so cheap, more people can afford them and they fetch sod all on the blackmarket (except plasma screens presumably)  Sorry about your loss. critter   10 #48 Posted August 3, 2007 What shocks me is the energy these thieves put into the 'art' of cheating. Checking to see whether I am home, whether the neighbours are there, whether the front door key is in the lock...how best to get in....I didn't lose anything in material terms. What shocks me is their semi-psychopathic behaviour...totally no sympathetic visualisation of the person behind the 'things'...
