Here is a song a friend once sang to me but I have forgotten the tune.

To be a Sheffield grinder,it is no easy trade,

there`s more than you`d imagine to the grinding of a blade,

the strongest man amongst us is old at 32,

there are few who brave such hardships, as we poor grinders do.

There's a CD somewhere - I have a copy, called Made In Sheffield, all Sheffield bands, maybe some of them are about the city too? Might be worth googling.

Lots of things by Pulp!

My favourite was Sheffield Sex City, but it's got the F word in it which may be inappropriate, depending on where your video's going to be shown.

Aye... second that one.

Very relevant for the flooding of the other week!

Wickerman from the last lp. It's very wordy, but has lots of landmarks and recognisable references. It's about the rivers, so if your video's flood-related it'll fit nicely.

Sheffield Sex City lyrics. This was the b side to a 12" but should be available on compilations or online somewhere. The long atmospheric intro is a steamy-sounding list of districts.

Deep Fried in Kelvin. I think it was in Trainspotting (???)

Just had a rummage in the CD box...

If you want some good background music with a Sheffield 'flavour' but with non-site-specific lyrics, I Monster are a good bet. Their lp neveroddoreven has been used a lot for background music, from Shaun of the Dead to Gardener's World! They've collaborated with several local acts, so the styles are quite varied. Or try All Seeing I, who overlap with I Monster and have also collaborated with local names for that unique Sheffield down-to-earth weirdness. :)
