YORCARD - (Sheffield Transport Smartcard) - Your views required

Recommended Posts

As you may have seen in other threads, YORCARD is due to commence in Sheffield at the end of the year.

Yorcard is a contactless transport smartcard that will be available to use right across South and West Yorkshire but for the first year will run as a limited pilot

During the pilot Yorcard smartcard holders will be able to be use the card on the bus services 41, 51, 52, 60 and 120 along with the trains operating on the Sheffield-Doncaster line.

As part of our planning can I ask the forum users the following questions:

1) What is your age, gender and occupation?

2) What benefits would you expect from a transport smartcard?

3) Would a transport smartcard encourage you to use public transport more?

4) How would you to pay to top up your transport smartcard?

5) Where would you like to pay to top up your transport smartcard?

6) What other goods or services would you like to buy using your smartcard?

Please feel free to reply on here or pm me with your answers, views, questions or opinions you may have.

Many Thanks

Sorry, for those of us (i.e. me, I'm the thick one!) who don't know what this is, can you explain in layman's terms please?

Yorcard is a transport smartcard that you load up with products (weekly tickets, travelmasters) or cash as STR (pay as you go).

You will use the card by getting on the bus and simply swiping the card against a reader. The reader will automatically detect what is on the card and charge accordingly.

So its an Oyster card for Yorkshire? If so, fantastic idea. Works perfectly well in London, I dream of something similar in Yorkshire so I don't have to carry bus fare around . Is that what it is?

Sounds like a really positive thing to happen. Should also stop the people who dig for change when they board the bus and not while they are waiting therefore making journeys that little bit quicker!

1) What is your age, gender and occupation? 20, Male, Administrator

2) What benefits would you expect from a transport smartcard? Faster bus journeys

3) Would a transport smartcard encourage you to use public transport more?

Most definetley

4) How would you to pay to top up your transport smartcard? Debit my bank account or credit card etc

5) Where would you like to pay to top up your transport smartcard? On the internet, via machine based in public places like universities, bus station and shops.

6) What other goods or services would you like to buy using your smartcard? I'll have to think about this, although i don't think i'd want to buy anything else.

Shame Sheffield can't just get their act together and get an Oyster card scheme going that costs about £10 a week and works on trams and both Stagecoach and First buses, throughout the city. It works so well in London.
