Where would you like to see the Supertram go in the future?

London Kings Cross please......

I'd like it to go up into Stannington (ie above the Sportsman, into the real Stanny, none of this Upper Malin Bridge crap).

Some good ideas on here, i love the tram, sooner sit on them than the buses (sory buses) also to the knockers of the tram, during last weeks floods, the tram was the only transport running, got a lot of folks home

Rather than extend the existing tram routes, make better use of the existing railway network by reopening all the suburban stations that have been shut down over the years.

Supertram extentions to Stannington and Stocksbridge should be implemented as soon as possible. Stocksbridge; route not yet finalised.

Extend from Middlewood Terminus to Wadsley Bridge rail station, make it a light rail/heavy rail interchange, and reopen the heavy rail line from Sheffield through Oughtibridge and Deepcar to Stocksbridge. Then link in to a re-opened Woodhead tunnel to Manchester.

I could never understand the point of the Herdings Spur, and why it didn't extend to Meadowhead instead, unless the camber in the road had something to do with it.

As promised here's the top of the 'figure of 8' tram route (the northern section) directly connecting the south of the city with the north via the city centre.

Let's start from Meadowhall interchange.

The tram would head west along the side of the mainline track to a newly reopened and refurbished Brightside railway/tram station.

It would then turn right onto Downgate Drive and then across Carlisle Street East onto Petre Street, straight across the waste ground connecting the bottom of Petre Street with Earl Marshall Road.

The tram then goes all the way along Earl Marshall Road to turn right onto Barnsley Road then across the junction with Owler Lane and under the archway into the grounds of the NG Hospital. From there the tram turns right to leave the grounds through the existing opening, turning left back onto Barnsley Road going uphill and turning right onto Hucklow Road heading to Firth Park.

From the roundabout at Firth Park the tram heads left up Stubbin Lane and then right back onto Barnsley Road where it continues along the A6135 until it turns left into Primrose Drive and St Michaels Road giving access to the shops in Ecclesfield.

The tram would then turn left into Wordsworth Avenue and continue along to the roundabout junction with Deerlands Avenue, turning right onto Deerlands and then left onto Chaucer Road and left again onto Halifax Road.

Going down Halifax Road it could then turn right to access a new Wadsley Bridge station (connecting with other future tram services to Stocksbridge) before dropping down to Claywheels Lane and over the river to connect with the existing tram line at Middlewood. Alternatively the tram could carry on down Halifax Road and under the railway bridge to turn right onto Claywheels Lane to connect with the Middlewood stop as before.

Trams would then head back to Hillsborough and the city centre on the existing track thus completing the top of the figure 8 and directly connecting the north of the city with the south.

Phew! I hope that's clear.

The idea of extension to Northern General is a good one but thats where it should stop. If it came any further as suggested you will then cut off Shiregreen, Ecclesfield Common, Chapeltown and High Green in terms of the current good bus service level situation. The busses get alot of passengers in the Firth Park, Lane Top, Shiregreen, Ecclesfield area that allow the busses to run as often as they do now to Chapeltown and High Green. If you took away this custom then the bus service would have to be scaled back as a result. It's now good having the tram if it means people further along the present bus route who would not have the tram lose their level of service as a result.

There aren't going to be any extensions in the near future anyway. The money has been pulled to pay for the olympics!!

Up Ecclesall Road, out into the countryside.

All with no fuss and no closure of shops/roads and no effect on the environment!

I think Barnsley Road Via Northern General to Sheffield Lane Top would be a good idea.

London Kings Cross please......

London Canary Wharf would be better for me.:hihi:

Seriously though, I would like to be able to get public transport to the station and not have to walk from either Castle Market or peace Gardens. A nice tram from Firth Park would do the trick.
