lazyherbert
Roof is leaking like the clappers so I phoned the council up to come & see to it & they said O.K. Then she said I do not think they will come today because it is raining & they will not work because of the safety aspect. All I can say is that they are going to be sat on their a**e for quite a few weeks with the weather we have in Sheffield. So I will have to wait for a sunny day for them to come. Link to comment https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/topic/86592-council-fair-weather-workers/ Share on other sites
BlackVelvet
Understand your point, but going up on a roof in weather like this (which is the only way they can fix it) does raise some health and safety issues. wet weather= slippy roof and scaffolding (a building regs requirement): not a good combination. psyn
my first instinct was to say that its not hard to work in the rain on a roof but then again sometimes, when its rain like this, it does get a bit tricky so I'd understand why they dont want to do it today, also depends whats up with your roof as taking bits off to fix in the pouring rain isnt always the smartest move. Bear in mind that if it is still raining there is a good chance they would make the leak worse before it was better too. Dizzyblonde
The H&S working at height rules have changed so that you really need scaffold to do roofs. Not surprised they said this. Most companies probably would Link to comment https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/topic/86592-council-fair-weather-workers/#findComment-1495284 Share on other sites
BlackVelvet
.....and its possible all the scaffold at the council depot is as we speak floating off down the newly extended river don towards scunthorpe Link to comment https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/topic/86592-council-fair-weather-workers/#findComment-1495290 Share on other sites
psyn
you could fix a leaking roof without a full scaffold but it depends on height of the roof where and what the leak is, a cherry picker or sissor lift may well be appropiate but.... lazyherbert
It must be terrible to have such a dangerous job.I am glad I only worked in a rolling mill. BlackVelvet
I dont doubt a rolling mill can be a dangerous place, if lets say, you were not abiding by H&S rules, and decided to maybe poke your arm into a running machine. Much the same as if the council roof repairers were to very foolishly attempt a repair 20ft up in the rain. Tempting fate!
