We're the posh Americans doncherknow. I bet you think that Bawstahn and Noo Yawk

talk the same. The only one I believe I ever heard from Indiana was Bobby Knight and such language!!

Hey, we Hoosiers know how to talk posh, too. Just listen: "Poosh the Eye-talian warsh cloth and the feesh under the piney boosh." (Translation: Push the Italian wash cloth and the fish under the peony bush.)

By the way, Bobby Knight was originally from Ohio, and he was foul-mouthed when he got here!!:o

I lived and worked in Columbus OH for a while and wouldn't admit to Bobby Knight.

The Buckeye state must accept the blame, Buck! Bloody good coach, though. I still can't believe IU let him go.

I think the time he hit a kid had a lot to do with it, but he coached some great hoosiers in his time and put Indiiana at the front of the basketball game. It's a shame what happened.

My apologies to Sheffielders at home for Happy and I hogging the thread. Indiana is over 800 miles away from Connecticut, and a good 12 ti 13 hours of driving at a 60 MPH average. It is a basketball mad state, and since Connecticut joined the big time with both the UConn men's and women's teams having won several national championships as well, that passion exists here too. Indiana is also the home, of course, of the Indy 500 car race held at the end of May on Memorial Day weekend. The race has been won by several Britons including this year.

What does " Red neck mean " ?
The term is reserved for southern gentlemen of limited mental and conversational skills. Since the south is overexposed to sunlight, many white men have red faces. To be a true redneck, you have to drive a pick up truck with a rifle on a rack in the rear window, a can of bud in your hand at all times while awake, live in a trailer, and fly the confederate battle flag on your radio antenna. You must eat grits for breakfast, and southern fried steak for dinner. You are a NASCAR fan ( stock car racing ) where few northerners are allowed to drive and are exposed to beer cans thrown at them, some of which occasionally still contain beer.

Oooh! That's me! I don't think I've ever inspired anything before!!

I am not from Sheffield, nor do I have friends or relatives in the area. I'm not even English. I was born where I currently live -- in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA.

But I do love all things English, especially the Yorkshire region. I have done for years. I actually just stumbled onto Sheffield Forum one day while surfing. I like looking at real estate, restaurants, pubs, tourist attractions and historic landmarks on the Internet, as if I were planning a vacation or a change of residence.

In the beginning, I read only the posts about going out in Sheffield. I eventually took a peek at the General section. I felt myself immediately drawn in by the humor, real life dramas, the sarcastic banter, the provocative questions, the personal insights, the intelligent (and not-so-intelligent) debates and all the different personalities. My plan to only read the posts voyeuristically quickly dissolved and I simply had to add my two cents.

Now -- I know I sound like a weirdo -- I just feel attached to it. I find myself caring about people I don't know and a city I've never been to. I worry about Diesel, and I hope Sunshiney Day is doing OK, and I'm rootin' for Jabberwocky to stay off the ciggies. I wonder how forummers' dates, and doctor's appointments, and job interviews, and band gigs, and baby births turned out. I know which restaurants do good curries, kebabs, fish cakes and mushy peas. I know where to get masquerade costumes and maternity clothes. I even know what bargains I might find at Tesco, Poundland and M&S.

I don't rightly understand it, but SF seems like a strange and wonderful blessing in my life.

Agent Orange and anyone else: I would be delighted to play host to Sheffield Forumers who find themselves in the Hoosier state. Ax murderers need not apply.

OMG

I am an honorary Hoosier LOL

I have friends in Indiana and I love the place!!! My friend Gayla has recently moved, to New Castle I think, but it cracks me up when driving around that there is a Castleton etc ..........

I haven't managed to make it for a coupla years, I was hoping to get over next month for Gaylas 40th (shhh) but couldn't get the funds ........

Have a grandpas breakfast at Cracker Barrel for me, with extra biskits and gravy ............ Deep fried turkey at Thanksgiving is something everyone should try.

Heck, even make a visit to the Brickyard and the museum ......... oh and the home where the Wright brothers were born.

Loved watching the boys play baseball at Middletown.

See, ya got me all homesick now for my 2nd home.

Anyhoo, have a woodchuck for me ... I'll pass on the sh*t on a shingle LMAO

*Smiles*
