Subject to weather conditions - Walk on Sunday 17 June. 2007.

09.35 am. Number 218 Bus from Sheffield Interchange to Baslow traveling via Abbeydale Road, Totley to Curbar Cross Roads.

The Walk: - Curbar Cross Roads – Wellington’s Monument – Eagle Stone – Eaglestone Flats - Curbar Gap – White Edge Trig Point – Lady’s Cross – *Long Pole -*Little John’s Seat ( * Both situated in Longshaw Park ) – Passing the final air shaft where Puffy Billies could be heard once - Totley Moor ( via Moss Road ) – finishing Totley or Totley Brook or Dore.

None alcoholic drinks may be obtained from : The Cricket, Cross Scythes, The Devonshire, Hare and Hounds. Etc.

Little John’s Seat in Longshaw Park was dedicated to the then Mrs Ethel Gallimore, later Haythornthwaite. Founder of the Council for the Protection of Rural England ( C.P.R.E.) and inspirer of the present day ‘ Friends of the Peak District ‘. She was First Secretary of The Longshaw Park, House Committee. In the 1930s, she had very actively persuaded benefactors to donate large sums of money to purchase Longshaw Park and donate the house and surrounding land to the National Trust. enabling everyone to benefit from its use.

Little John's Seat was dedicated to her in 1936. Above the seat, set in the rock, was a plaque stating this. A few years ago, I believe someone displayed there personal appreciation of her, by stealing it. Is it too much to ask for its return?

If someone has an original photograph of the actual plaque, I would very much appreciate a copy, to enable me to have a duplicate plaque replacement made.

Is this a long walk and how hilly is it ?

It is about 6 to 7 miles long and mainly level except for the rise from Curbar Gap Car Park to the White Edge Trig Point. This rise is approx 65 - 80 metres or 175 - 220 foot.

If the weather is clear, it is the ideal walk for photography. (If its not, we will be going someother time).

If you come and find that you cannot get up onto White Edge, I'll arrange for a car to pick you up at Curbar Gap Car Park and either run you almost home or arrange to meet up for you to walk across Totley Moors.

No Booze Bert!!

I'll be coming on this one with friend.

Canada Girl, I think the bus leaves Sheffield Interchange at 9.35 and we will be on it. I'll check the details on the internet a bit later and post you the details if no-one else beats me to it.
