CaviQueen
I cant believe it I posted a parcel yesterday at the post office for my mother... To return it to a shopping channel.... It cost £5.75 The returns label clearly attached... Obviously the lady at the post office could read it as she had wrote it on the proof of postage receipt.... Can you believe it..... My mother has just phoned me.... To say the parcel has been re-delivered to her home address.... I have phoned the Royal Mail contact centre and spoke to someone at customer service... He said we need to re-post it and pay for the postage again then claim the postal charge back via a P58 claims form.... How stupid is this.... In my opinion they should go and collect the parcel themselves as it`s their mistake.... Not ours..... Not only that I live near Mosborough and my mother lives at High Green... Are the Royal Mail going to compensate me for my petrol money and time etc to collect it again....My mother has mobility problems and cannot take the parcel to the post office herself.... This is Madness... What do you think ???

In the same position as you I would pester Royal Mail to make good the mistake, come and collect the parcel to deliver. I can't remember all the details but I seem to recall that they owe you a compensation package for this error as you have already paid for a promised service which has not only fallen short of its target but completely failed its objective. Rob_1
Next time stick the return label over the original address, it can't happen then.
satman2222
If you are going to the Chapeltown sorting office to complain, be prepared to queue behind loads of other dissatisfied customers wanting to vent their spleen............

If it wasn't marked how do you expect them to know which address to deliver it to?

My husband has called into the post offices near us this afternoon, Where we posted it from and the kind lady behind the counter said to bring the parcel back and she would re-post it for me... Free of charge.... The origional label was clearly crossed out with my mothers address on it and the returns label covered over it.... The lady at the post office easily read the returns address label, She made no comment of whether the origional label was visable or not.... If your mothers address was crossed out and the returns label placed over it how could Royal mail deliver it back to her address ?
CaviQueen
Apparently the parcel goes through the scanner ?? And reads the label like a bar code ?? It must have picked up the origional address from that..... Anyway I really dont what happens when you post something all I know is she paid for a service that let her down ?? But I really dont know because my profession is not in Royal Mail...
satman2222
yes - the parcel would probably have been bulk scanned etc to get it as far as the Chapeltown sorting office etc, but you would have thought the muppet who hand delivered it back to the originating address using the return address label panel would have spotted the error!
