Darbees Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Seems that Anne Summers got the idea of holding their parties in peoples homes from Pippa Dee, if I had known that at the time I might have stayed in.
Darbees Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 there was also the Tupperware parties, and a jewellery comapny that did "selling" parties, too, called "Sarah Coventry". I remember my mother hosting All three, Tupperware, Pippa Dee, and Sarah Coventry, round about 1970 to 73. There was another one she did, selling cosmetics, Miss Mary of Sweden.
Plain Talker Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 There was another one she did, selling cosmetics, Miss Mary of Sweden. *shocked* I know MMOS did cosmetics, but I thought they were more to do with corsetry (girdles, bras and stuff).
Darbees Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Well if they were I never saw them. Could do with tracking them down and getting a girdle actually after trying my smart new £6 Tesco jeans on today.
Yellowrose Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 *shocked* I know MMOS did cosmetics, but I thought they were more to do with corsetry (girdles, bras and stuff). My grandma used to buy pretty hefty corsetry from MMOS: and I mean hefty!
bushbaby 3 Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 i had pippadee and tupperwear parties in the seventies.you envited your friends hoping they would buy loads of stuff.if you were lucky and got enough sales you got afree item.then you went to one of your friends houses who had booked a party at yours .you had to buy something there then it was off to the next friend the following week untill evenyually it got back to your turn once again.things were bought for the sake of it.the agent told tou . you were under no obligation to buy anything but you always did .you came away having ordered something you know you would never wearand ended gathering dust at the back of the wardrobe itwas known as party plan i dont think anyone runs them anymore a good thing as well
Heeley tyke Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 My wife was a Pippa-Dee party organizer for some years in the late 60s-early 70s. These parties were well-attended and proved very popular.
