teddie Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 put him in his bed and kiss him goodnight ?? ****e I've just peed my self:hihi: Will be laughing about this for ages
mrteabag Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Why put himself through that when he can pay a vet to do it on the farm premises and in a less bloody way? he says in his eyes he started life with him he finishes it with him and in surroundings with people that love him (it aint bloody just heart breaking)
teddie Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Even james Herriot didn't get that sentimental, and he got paid wads!!
mrteabag Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 you have to be a registered veterinarian to carry out this horrible task, my good companion and best friend "pip" was in all sorts of trouble before she went and i asked the vet if i could push the plunger on the syringe to end her suffering, i was told that legally they can not allow this due to implications of it going wrong and the ramifications of getting sued... she is with her old friend emms now up on the moors near beeley resting peacefully... now iv got tears in my eyes:( aaahhh nabdabs me too now
lyndix Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 (it aint bloody just heart breaking) As heartbreaking as it is, I think you`ll find, if he shot the dog it would be bloody!
Darbees Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 he says in his eyes he started life with him he finishes it with him and in surroundings with people that love him (it aint bloody just heart breaking)If shooting it wasn't bloody how did it kill it?
holidayhutch Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I used to be an animal control and welfare officer for the local authority and when it was my turn to be on Dog Warden duties I was allowed to put injured dogs to sleep that were in too much distress to get to a vet. I was properly trained to do this and I'm sure there was programme on tv where Sheffield wardens did this once too.
Lotti Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 that's so sad mrteabag about your friend. A vet would have come to him, so that the dog was in his own surroundings with the people he knew. I certaintly couldn't finish it for one of my own pets - I hope that I could be there with them at the end, but not do it myself... I'm not sure about the law on these things - there was a chap who wasn't licensed (but had been taught how to use a boltgun) who destroyed all those ex racing greyhounds. He didn't get into any trouble for the deaths (I think he was able to prove it was done humanely) but did get into trouble for how he disposed of the bodies. Edit to add: I'm not sure how the new Animal Welfare Law would affect it though - I was under the impression breeders (at least dog breeders) were not allowed to 'cull' their litters - but had to have a vet come out and do it.
