are you comparing your computer speakers to your hifi? If you play mp3s @320 through a good seperates hifi I don't think you would notice the difference compared to a cd.

 

VBR is always better. Some parts of the track i.e. silence don't need as much BR.

One thing to watch with VBR is that if you try streaming it round a wireless network at home, it can cause issues.

Not with a Squeezebox it doesn't? I'd say there's something else at fault.

HiFi and computer speakers - computer speakers are high quality studio standard any ways, and my hifi cost me about £1500 4 years ago and sounds better than the day I got it :)

its a different tuner than I used to have though, the one i had died, so i now have an analog manual tuner - till i can afford a dab one

Stick with analogue while you can, the bitrates on DAB are appallingly low :(
