Pro's and Negs of Manual and Automatic Please?

That's my point- I choose what gear my automatic is in, using my right foot and my gear selector. This is a common misconception with drivers of manual cars.

Medusa, what do you mean you use your right foot and gear selector in your automatic, don't you only have just the two pedals, one for gas other would be the brake ?

I drive an automatic too, I wouldn't know how to drive a manual, but your automatics sound different?

Mostly I prefer the extra driver involvement with a manual.

My ex said the same thing.

He liked the interaction required by the manual transmission... he has ADHD, so it helped him focus on driving without zoning out.

Our autos are same as yours, you can move the lever so that it stays in lower gears if you need more power to go up a hill but it doesn't keep changing up and down the gears or engine braking to go down. Some semi automatics have a more sophisticated system with names like tiptronic and sport tronic where you can choose to drive it in similar way to a manual where you decide when to change gear but they don't have a clutch pedal.

What I mean is that drivers of manual cars usually say that there's no control of your gears when you drive an automatic, but everything in the way that you use the accelerator changes the way that your car changes gear. I can also control the kickdown to choose which gear I kick down into, and in conjunction with the gear selector which allows you to cut out the top gear or two if you're somewhere seriously hilly or icy, then I'm not allowing the car to choose the gears, I'm choosing the gears but the car is doing the changing- if you see what I mean.
