Salster! Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 That's probably one of the most ill informed and arrogrant statements I've ever seen posted on this forum, as well as a total oxymoron So outraged was Ruby that she had to say it twice
Spotty Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 The working class are just lazy who rely on state handouts supplied by us more successful:| Without the working class to leach off the " more successful" wouldn't be anywhere. There is no such thing as a self made millionaire.
rubydazzler Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 So outraged was Ruby that she had to say it twice pass me the Rennies, salster, I'm repeating myself
Swan_Vesta Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I dont know which side you are looking from, but the arguament quite clearly goes both ways. Take this thread for examplehttp://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=221956 The title alone sounds like he's trying to get rid of a vermin problem.I am sure as hell I am not the only person that read it that way.the best thing is to not tar everyone of the same class with the same brush, for example I know plenty of snobs I like:hihi: Yeah baby! Cited as an example - Woohoo! I am horrificly common but know how to conduct myself and my affairs, what I object to is those who have no standards and inflict their lack of breeding on others. This includes commoners, the anti social and even disgraced peers of the realm who solicit whores, lie under oath and then get banged up. I'm sure when Archer's escapades came to light that one of his neighbours commented "God, The neighbourhood's gone to pot now we've got a perjuring scrubber afficianado down the road." In reality, class is a redundant classification, behaviour is the key to measuring a man's worth.
Bago Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 In reality, class is a redundant classification, behaviour is the key to measuring a man's worth. Well, I feel that a person who has to struggle means that they have worked hard. Regardless of whether others class that as a working class mentality or not. To me, I was born into a classless society, but class classification may possibly be perceived of me. I think that a person who has strive harder under their given circumstances means that they are more successful and a worthier person overall. If you haven't had to struggle, doing whatever it may be, then how can you say that you have "achieved" something ? A lot of people put others down anyway, but until they know what that person had to go through to achieve it, then they would not understand how proud a person can be of their own achievements. For some kids who are born into families with money, if they have not pushed themselves and actually gone out of their comfort zone to achieve even more than they would've done otherwise from a family of poorer background, then can they truly say to themselves that they have "achieved" something? Going through the system to me is not achieving. Going against the odds means you've achieved something. For me, I don't see it as a reverse snobbery, but if someone can push themselves harder and go beyond their own comfort zone and work the optimal level of themselves, then that is indeed working their hardest. That is how I see it anyway.
Grandad.Malky Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Inverse snobbery is strong out here in OZ too. . It is usually those who don't work and achieve anything for themselves who are resentful. .] It looks like somethings travel the globe.
Ms Macbeth Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Yeah baby! Cited as an example - Woohoo! In reality, class is a redundant classification, behaviour is the key to measuring a man's worth. And a woman's! Ok, I'm in favour of a behaviourist society. I've felt for a long time that as the old class distinctions have become blurred (it used to be so easy, just think of the skit by John Cleese and the Two Ronnies - I look down/up etc) our values and behaviour are the things that are important. Now, who's going to be first to say what is acceptable/non acceptable behaviour?
