Wow that brings back memorys i used to work at Wigfalls offices that were in the Wicker, and we would go to the peacock once a week it was so good, I also remember a travel agent there to wood something it was called. :D

Hi miami now it was woodcocks the travel agents, Iwent to the Peacock the first week it opened, they were very good in those days, but they went down a bit later I thought so anyway Cheers Arthur.

yes, I used the Peacock many times, as I worked in the offices of Oxo , round the corner on Joiner Street.

 

I lived very close to there on Johnson St.The back of the OXO place used to be the Refreshment Houses where you could buy a meal after the war.

Do you recall the picture house they had in the wicker im sure i do i saw the Beatles first film there either that or im dreaming i did it. dont know whitch... Still would like to find someone from the gleadless Valley area who would be now in there 50's i grew up there from being in Jr 2 to leaving school well its worth a try im also looking for a long lost cousin but i guess that will not happen have a good night everyone

I remember the cinema on the Wicker- saw 'Paint your wagon' there in the

70s with my Dad- but can't remember the name and it is really bugging me now- would it have been studio 7?

I remember going to The Peacock on Thursday lunchtimes for their special lunch. Worked in The Wicker at Balfour's and it used to be our treat every Thursday. Had some good meals there.

I used to go on thursdays also had a pork and veggie meal i had never eaten there before but loved it felt like a rich person.lol

i also used to go to the peacock thursday lunch time i used to work in tje wicker at dewires warehouse just through the arches. a group of us used to go.if i remember rightly the cost was five shillings.for this you got a main meal and a pudding
