lazyherbert
Did you ever go into the Peacock Chinese restaurant in the Wicker. We were regular customers in the 60s.Very good it was too in fact we held our wedding reception there & it was great. There was no set meal, you just picked what you wanted from the menu. sparky2
Went to the Peacock many times in the 60s, great place. That was one of the first Chinese restaurants in Sheffield. Zing Vaa just off West Street was the first and I'm sure the Peacock was the second. The company that owned the Peacock opened another one at the side of the old Empire Theatre but just at this moment can't remember the name but I do know it was the name of a bird. Just to refresh a few more memories if you went to the Zing Vaa on Saturday night during the 60s there would be a singer on, you could never get in when it was Tony Whyte, great days, anyone remember? Zing Vaa was on the Moor Rickshaw was just off west street and I think the other one you were thinking off was the Canary I used to go to them all in the 60s I had my hen night in the Zing Vaa what a night and what a lot off steps to fall down :hihi:
lakerman
The Chinese restaurant that had singers on at the weekends was the Golden Dragon (just off the moor). When I had my stag night (1970) we ended up in the Dragon and Tony White was on that night. When he found out that I was getting married the next day he took the p--s out of me all night. Silly, Yes are are quite right about the Rickshaw I remembered in bed last night, you are also correct about the Canary. Just to go back to Lakerman, Tony White did appear at the Rickshaw quite a lot and also as you say the Golden Dragon along with quite a few more artists. pippadoll
Does anyone know of a really good Chinese restuarant in Sheffield. I know there are quite a few around, but not sure how good they are in terms of really good quality food. I am not looking for a buffet style restaurant but really good quality, tasty Chinese food. maurice1
I remember a group of us going there at lunchtime on Fridays in the late 1960's. Seem to remember it was a set menu. Most visits used to have a banana fritter for pud. Very good food and busy
