Bilderberg meeting this week

The Bilderberg group is believed to be holding its annual meeting in the Istanbul area of Turkey from 31 May - 3 June. Never heard of Bilderberg? That's just the way they like it. Now enter "Bilderberg" in Google: 1.76m results for something nobody has ever heard of!

The Bilderberg meeting is a sort of awayday for representatives of the political and business elites of the western world. Have you ever wondered why things seem to happen to us rather than being in accord with what we, the people, would actually like? Part of the answer is that things are cooked up in gatherings like Bilderberg where the political and business elite spend time discussing how they can advance each other's interests. Will Hutton once described the Bilderbergers as "the high priests of globalisation".

There are other globalist fora, such as the Davos World Economic Forum, but Bilderberg meetings are renowned for their obsessive secrecy and security. The British attendees at this year's meetings are said to include: Gordon Brown's right hand man, Ed Balls; George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor; Kenneth Clark, Tory MP, Europe enthusiast and deputy chairman of British American Tobacco; and Anatole Kaletsky, Times Editor-at-Large. Amongst agenda topics it is thought that competition with eastern countries for dwindling energy supplies will feature prominently. It has been commented that the end of oil will mean the end of the world's financial system.

Aftermath News article

It was former British Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, who stated that “the world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes.”

It is not up to God to bring us back from the “New Dark Age” planned for us. IT IS UP TO US. Whether we go into the next century as an electronic global police state or as free human beings depends on the action we take now. Forewarned is forearmed. We will never find the right answers if we don’t ask the proper questions.

If you see mention of Bilderberg anywhere in the mainstream media in the next few days then do post it here. :suspect:

I'm not convinced that it's quite as much of a worry as you're saying it is. It's probably more of a useful way to bypass the redtape involved in international diplomacy. Any meeting that brings leading world figures together in debate must be a good thing.

I'd suggest that the reason it's as secretive as it is is so that exchanges can be totally frank without having to worry about how the press will report it. It also takes the pressure off - there are no expectations of an assembly to produce immediate results if the public aren't generally aware of it.

The conspiracy theorists love it, of course. According to David Icke, its where the alien lizards convene to organise the future history of the poor ignorant humans.

Maybe, but he certainly has no evidence. ;)

They are only secretive toward the left wing press. They meet in private because they are a private group with no power, simple as. Its a sort of working mens club for upper class business leaders and powerful men. Thats all.

They meet in private so that they can freely discuss world issues without leftist propogandists and anti globalisation terrorists putting their lives at risk. Can't blame them really.

In response to some of the points made: Bilderberg isn't a general gathering of world figures - only western capitalism is represented; it is undemocratic in that sectional interests (viz business) have private access to influence politicians in a way which by-passes the electorate at large; the culture of secrecy has, I understand, operated since the foundation of the organisation - ie from times (in the 1950s) when news coverage was more low key than it is now.

I wouldn't wish to exaggerate the importance of one annual meeting of a relatively small number of people but it is a symbol of how agendas in western politics can be shaped before they are presented to the people.
