clogginchris
Hi Does anyone know who you phone about alarms going off? There's one on a shop near me that's being going off since the early hours of this morning. I've been out all day and expected it to have been fixed while I was out. Just come back and it's still going. Don't think I can face another night listening to it - it's only about 20 yards from my bedroom window! It doesn't seem the sort of thing to bother the police with, but I'm not sure what else to do!
andyk68
The thing is, if you phone the police, obviously not on the emergency number use 2202020 then because its a business that the alarm is ringing at they are obliged to leave contact numbers with the police in case of break ins and so forth. This means the police can get someone out to deal and wont even need to visit the premises.
clogginchris
Thanks - phoned them on 101, and they contacted the owner - it was switched off a couple of minutes ago! Just shows, it had been going off for hours and none of us had reported it -all thought someone else would have done.

S-Bear
You're lucky it was a business. There was a house alarm going off in our area on May Day bank holiday for over 4 hours. I phoned the non-emergency police number and they told me to phone the council. I pointed out that it was a bank holiday and that no one would be there, but they just said that the police don't attend for house alarms. It was all very polite and soothing (..we understand how you feel...etc) but it was obvious that they didn't care one jot! Exactly, We had an alarm going off for hours on end the other night, and just shut all windows as last time we told the police of one going off while neighbours on holiday, they saud nothing they could do. In fact when we lived in S13 myself and a neighbour from a couple of doors down had gone across to check on a house where the family were away, and found the downstirs window open. The police said they would send someone out, after half an hour we rang back and were told same, anothe hour later, we went round to find if any neighbour was supposed to e watching on the house and found that a couple celebrating a birthday in our local, had forgot to close windows up and that had set sensor/alarms off. But no bloomin police showed up at all while we were outside a good couple of hours. Then they wonder why people take situations into their own hands at times. smileyjiver
Also on some alarm boxes there is the name and telephone number of the company who fitted it. You could always try them they may come out to it as there could be aservice contract on it. A long shot I know, but my ex-husband worked for an alarm company and he was often on call and if anyone rang the office number then it would go straight through to his mobile and he then went out to fix the alarm. So if there is a telephone number on the outside box then it might be worth a call to the company concerned.
Bago
I don't actually understand the point of alarms. Anyway, going back on the same point. I rang the police once when I thought I saw a shadow from a house that had its alarm ringing. They said that unless I literally witnessed the scene of the crime and can identify someone, then I shouldn't have rung them! I was a bit embarrassed about it. I did later learn about the non-emergency numbers.
