A phrase I heard from the older generation: "They want some Pol Thomson."

Now it alludes to a need for discipline/punishment but who/what Pol Thomson is/was, is beyond me?

Just remembered one my mum used to use, which seems quite apt considering some of the posters on SF

"S/he could start an argument in an empty room"

"stop touching that cat, You'll gee it Mange!"

also:

gee up wi that vinegar, it dries your blood up.

"pick us a winner" "come down, I've done upstairs" (when picking nose)

Oh yes, and the most frequent one I heard (when I cried) was: "Tha wa born near t' watter works thee"
