African slaves took a custom with them to America.Part of the marriage ceremony was for the couple to tie their hands together with a ribbon and then jump over a broomstick.

Peggy Lee had a big hit with the song:

My nanan says five and twenty past the hour instead of twenty five past lol

 

 

Not a Sheffield thing at all, my nan is from Hertfordshire and she says this too (she's heading towards 90, bless her )

I wonder what she would have said about the young people who go out drinking in cold weather wearing little more than a 'cloot'! :loopy:
