mgblade
went swimming today with the kids, not too impressed with the place! why do they bother having the slides??? we got in at 2pm, the smaller slide opened at 2.20 for ten minutes just got a go before it closed again!! then a funny thing happened 4 people walked up to the big slide to ask when it was going to open, everyone thought it was going to open and the next thing there was a que of 40 people waiting on the pool side.the attendents didn't know what to do and after 10 minutes bowed to pressure and opened it up. BUT as soon as the que eased up they shut the bloody thing again!! they opened the smaller one again for another ten minutes.. why don't they just keep them open all the time so the que's are smaller??? or is that just too sensible!! went into the showers after, moved the shower head only for it to fall off and roll across the shower floor. my kids thought this was very funny. gave into my kids to try the body dryer, paid a quid to stand there for 5 minutes while some warm red lights came on, there are some vents down the side but no hot air came out. needless to say came out still wet.. mentioned it at reception and they said they would talk to the duty manager, perhaps it wasn't working right.she didn't look like she was going to give me my money back so i said i will see the duty manager, at which point she took a quid out the till and said she would sort it with him later. would have got some chocolate out of the machine but each one we chose it said none left.. ha ha we could see em!!!! come on hillsborough sort it out!!!! StarSparkle
The Baths aren't literally going downhill, I hope, or all the water'll drain away... StarSparkle
pattricia
Was told that body dryer thing was broken, when I last asked. Im just disappointed there is no diving board, as its something I cant do, and have always wanted to learn.
pitsmoorlad
Took my grandson, yesterday. Got in at 5 past 9. By 10.30 we had to get out and the wave machine hadn't been on once. It's not easy trying to explain why it wasn't working to a 5 yr old. At about 10 o clock I asked one of the poolside assistants if or when it was coming on. She told me that she didn't know and it was on an automatic timer. The blue slide opened for 10 minutes at about 9. 45 then was opened again to huge queues at about 10.15. The black one opened about 25 past. The food section's more like a McDonalds now and you can wait for ages before someone comes to serve you. I waited and waited like an idiot and eventually shouted "shop" before I was served. A few weeks back they weren't even open at 9 o'clock cos "we haven't enough staff in". When I asked when they would be open the woman said "probably at 10". Still they mange to charge the same whether everything's working or not. Crap facilities, crap entertainment value, full price. I wish they'd get their act together.
Rich
Also, Hillsborough Leisure Centre has one of the worst receptions ever! Takes them 15 minutes to answer the phone for god sakes! And if there's more than 3 people in a queue they can't cope! I go twice a week for Karate, get there just before 6, lesson starts at 6.15 (well it's supposed to but never does) and you can guarantee that I'll be ages in the queue and not get into the changing room till nearly 10 past, which leaves 5 minutes to get changed into the Karate suit, and for a disabled person that's no mean feat. satman2222
Went for the first time recently - never again! Also - Ponds Forge leisure pool has to be the most depressing, dingy swimming pool I have ever been in! We stick to Barnsley Metrodome now! roobarbpie
Weird! I went yesterday morning too. Yes, it was a bit fuller than usual but apart from that we had a wonderful time. The waves came on only once - they don't start til after 10.30 as earlier it's "Splish Splash" which is aimed at younger kids, but both slides were open at some point. I've found it's a lot better down there since the refit. My only gripe is that I wish there were more family changing rooms. It's impossible to get me and 2 kids into all but about 2 of them. Henrietta
Barnsley Metrodome got a vote there, but which are the better South Yorkshire public swimming baths? Who has their favourites? .
Rich
I used to like the original Hillsborough Baths way back in the 80s (where Deep End/Wetherspoons now stands). Upperthorpe was always popular when I was a kid for their splash sessions, and I live near there now and have joined the gym at the healthy living centre so I'll probably get more use out of teh pool. mifsit
paid a quid to stand there for 5 minutes while some warm red lights came on, there are some vents down the side but no hot air came out. needless to say came out still wet.. I always find a towel works well and takes only a few mins, not 5. Kinder to the environment too
