Gordonb   11 #78 Posted December 7, 2013 Well do I remember Newfield Secondary Modern. Was there 1961 to 1965.Mention of the soap box derby brings back one of the funniest memories, the steep hill down to the sports pitch. One of the entrants went fast fast fast towardsthe turn , only didnt turn, the kart hit the kerb head on,came to a sudden and complete stop. The driver unfortunately didnt. The best superman impersonation i have ever seen. He flew head first and dropped out of sight over the hill. The fact that he came out ok was a miracle, but was he a star that day.  Think I am the same age as you as I left Sharrow Lane in 1961.  Would you have been in the gang show at the 139th cubs/scouts. I remember dressing up with white gloves and having a blacked up face, singing "De Camptown Ladies". How times have changed, probably get arrested if I did that now.  Don't live in Sheffield but drove past the old church last week and it is now rubble with the bricks being sold at 80p each. There are a couple of planning applications in for the site if I think right.
 Share this content via...

oscar2157 Â Â 12 #81 Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) During some of my time at Newfield... Peter Owen Jones was our teacher..who also did the 'art class' for the whole school.... 'P.O.Jones' as many will know painted some brilliant Sheffield city scenes and many railway themed pictures which can still be purchased today....A couple of years ago I visited his grave in the village of 'Elton' in Derbyshire... it appears he died in 1993 aged 60... which means as my teacher.. he would have been only 26 ... yet at the time, teachers.. to us pupils always seemed like grown up men.. which they were of course...but today,.. 55 years on... 26 seems but a youngster !...../....... I notice that the 'Three bears' Sharrow cafe' is now ..'Blue sky'... but.. as suggested some months ago...I am still up to try for an ex-pupil re-union there some time in the near future... if interest is shown. Cheers from David G Johnson.... ex Sharrow Lane... Newfield.. Franklin street.. Cubs.. Scouts.. St. Johns youth club.. Cross Guns ! every Derbyshire pub.. and curry expert. P Adshead   10 #84 Posted November 6, 2016 I went to Newfield school from Carfield primany school , I was born 1961 , so I guess I was at Newfield School from 1972 to 1977. Can`t remember much of my school days , but these are the teachers which trigger a little recall.  Mr Threlfall , Mr Wilson , Miss Fletcher , Mr Mc Dermott , Mr Pye , Mr Ingram , Mr Hancock , , Mr Cunnington , Mr Schofield , Mr Phillips , Mr Dyson.  The only people I can remember are Diane revell who recognized me and owned a computer shop in darnall area about 15 years ago, Russell fearn , Simon pollard , John webser , John Clayton .  What can I remember ? , In the Physics Lab a side of the room was filled with a lot of big battery , the drawers was filled with power pack which we use to set fire to lead pencils. They was a dark room and we all had to do photography and develop our own black and white photographs. I can remember been able to walk under the road bridge , Having to do cross country in cold , In PE playing pirates which is a game where you could not touch the floor and had to use beams ropes etc to keep away from the people who had to touch you to win. In woodwork I made carved wood animal figures and a magazine rack.
 Share this content via...
