As we all know the government is starting a pay as you drive scheme on the most congrested roads to cut down the amout of people using them, get people onto public transport and the save the enviroment.

There are a few ways they could help by saving the enviroment by giving people an incentive to buy greener cars or give people a tax break in setting up bio diesel pumps. If there are more bio diesel pumps around the country and it is cheap then most people with diesel cars will use them more.

Has anyone got any other ideas or comments?

They aren't interested in us being green, they just want the money. The government won't give concessions on fuel because of the environment, they want the money. Diesel used to be much cheaper than petrol and still is on the continent. When diesel started to become popular in 80s they jacked the price up because they were losing out on the duty.

We already have a pay as you drive tax in the UK, known as fuel duty.

If you have a car with low mpg, you pay more; if you drive lots of miles, you pay more.

If you have a high mpg car and don't drive much, you pay less.

they only want the revenue.

Company cars are now taxed so much, people started turning to using their own car, so they're now proposing to increase the tax on personal cars used for work.

'High pollution cars' (ie those in Tax Band G) are taxed more heavily when on the road, and in london boroughs, are also taxed more when parked up....
