How many people are going to the Mayfest?

I think it was a case of blame the weather to save face, I have been to outdoor events in the past in near gale force conditions with a better attendance than mayfest, he did not help himself with that post on the other thread telling us how we sheffielders moan too much and manchester are more willing to pay over the odds.. well let him take his events to the people of manchester, Because I for one will no longer be lining his pockets with my cash.

I really can't see Manchester going for it but maybe that's just me?

Can you imagine it being as popular as say the Mardi Gras? Not been for a couple of years but for a £10 (if you buy online) you get a weekends worth of entertainment. OK it works out £1 dearer for the kids.

Unfortunately it clashes with Norfolk Park Festival which thankfully hasn't been ruined (yet?)

im so glad the mayfest event flopped this year. the few people who did bother to put their cagoules on must have felt that they had been mugged. although the inclement weather will have affected attendances the event was doomed to fail come rain or shine. im glad the funfair didn't make much money either but at £2 - £2.50 a ride it is a con especially when the ride only lasts about 2 minutes. hopefully the event organisers will make sure this was the last ever mayfest.

That's Exactly why i don't bother going to the fun fair anymore it's scandalous the amount they charge to go on the rides.

I used to go the Dronfield fair at cliffe park quite regular but don't bother now like many others because of the extortianate prices:roll:

Is there a music in the sun this year? Heard rumours that there was a while ago, but nothing since.

i agree with you m^rk about the fairs they are very overpriced. i feel sorry for anyone who lives in close proximity to a fairground because of the problems that come with the fair. loud noise is a problem and then of course there is the gangs of youths who loiter around the fair looking for trouble or to stab someone. then there is the problem that comes with the fairground casual labourers such as trying it on with anything in a skirt and the classic " no mate it wasn't a tenner you gave me it was a fiver - honest!". back on topic about mayfest i think it is time that mayfest was left to- REST IN PEACE.

dont blame the fair folk they have to make money i bet they were charged a few pennies to get a plot in mayfest if mayfest was 3 quid people would go if there was things to do not just pay and decent music acts

One of the caterers i spoke to said they had paid £800 for one van to be on the site for the weekend. He said "I dont want to think about how much money ive lost".

The catering stalls were a bit of a rip off. I was there both days with St John, and the first day i spent £15 on lunch which consisted of a cheeseburger, a sausage and some chips and a bit of canal water....sorry gravy....on top. £2 for a small portion of chips that you eat in about 5 seconds is stupid! I hope they lost money!

Events wise, there were some big-ish names, but they only played 2 songs. Right Said Fred was extreemly upset with the 15 year olds in the technical staff, and at the size of the crowd too. And as soon as he went off so did the crowd to the real radio presenters saying "Dont go anywhere we have HUGE names comming up later...", there was only us St John people, and the event staff there to hear that!

The weather was partly to blame, but there was nothing to entertain the crowds, and all the good stuff was hidden away in strange corners of the bowl. The trek to get to the place was a good 20 minutes from the city centre by tram, and there was no parking available i was told.

All in all not very well thought out, over priced and a bore! Still had a laugh with the NHS ambulance crew, and our lot though.
