How many people are going to the Mayfest?

I've enjoyed it other years, like in 2005 (last time I went) - Do Me Bad Things to name one act I really liked, and others but can't remember them all, it was sunny, in the field and was just cool. I saw V there one year in the field (2004 was it? which was cool 'cause they were one of my favourite bands then). But anyway, it won't be like that this year.

Well we just got home, Lucily for us the inspector on the tram kindly gave us two free child tickets (thankyou) But I still feel that we were robbed of the 14 quid entrance fee for two adult's. The place was almost deserted at just after 12 when we got there, all the stall's provided by sheffield markets were empty and the rides all seemed to be whizzing round not even half full. we all had a bag of chips that quite frankly were the worst we ever tasted and incidently the most expensive we ever payed anywhere.

The kids seemed to enjoy the free attractions more than the rides you had to pay for, we got a bag full of goodies from the lovley chap from the R.A.F who sat down and took the time to show the little one how the ejector seat worked. At about half four we walked over to the stage area (it was very small and we nearly missed it) I felt a bit sorry for the chap from Right said Fred, (who seemed to be having some problems with the technical staff) when he came onto the stage he looked shocked when he saw the small crowd gatherd to watch.

Most of the crowd was made up of the army, navy and other staff attending the event, there seemed to only be a handfull of actuall paying spectators. When he finished his four songs and left the stage the presenters from Real F.M came on and the crowd practically dissapeard, it must have been embarrasing for them because as we walked away there only looked to be half a dozen people left watching and they were mainly the staff. At this point feeling defeated by the weather and overall overexpensivness of everything we decided to call it a day and come home, and it looked like many others were doing the same thing.

All in all I think the overpricing and change of venue has given the mayfest the kiss of death, we will not be wasting our cash next year.

Now I did read the comments made by the promoter on another thread... I guess alot of other people read your comments and decided not to attend.. bet that was the most expensive post you ever made because it cost you a bomb..

Right Said Fred turned up then - I heard on the news yesterday that one of them had been arrested for something or other! Missed half of it though, so not sure what that was all about!

What have you been doing for the past 5 years? Sheffield Fayre has been in Norfolk Heritage Park and will be again this August 26th & 27th this is a great family day out with lots of entertainment for all the family, including multi period living history camp, Sheffield Horticultural Show, craft stalls, community stalls, arena entertainment etc etc etc and entry is FREE. There are also stalls selling food and drink. The event is organised by the Sheffield Fayre Management Committe, which is a group of local people and a rep from SCC.

Come and see us (I will be in the Horticultural Marquee!) car parking is available via the Granville Rd entrance but costs £2.00per car.

Just for info Mayfest is organised and run by a private company - not Sheffield City Council, although they do help to set it up.

Seconded! Been every year, except last because I was out of the country, and its never let me down. I live close so have tended to go back throughout the weekend.

Its not spend spend spend either, there is a market & craft sale type area but its not the focal point - the displays are fantastic!

thirded! been every year & the kids have loved it.fair enough the weather has'nt helped this year but holding it at don valley is a joke! there was'nt half as much as previous years & the prices just keep gettin higher!nothing really for kids, well nothing really at all!!!

think the organisers need to get the opinons of the customers to see what they think before they do next years but we are one family who won't be there!
