I hope hardly anyone turned up so they get the message that everyone was fed up of the price increase! Then hopefully they will move it back to Hilsborough park! I hope they made hardly any money! Even the weather is rubbish for them! ha ha ha!

Thanks for all info. about Mayfest. In view of what has been said we won't be taking the grandchildren this year. We wholeheartedly agree with what a lot of you have said that it should be brought back to Hillsborough Park. We used to go many, many years ago and it was great and it didn't cost an arm and a leg because there were so many shows going on, one in particular were the armed forces (I know they can't have such as them anymore) there is another stupid law, but what I am saying is that the kids were happy watching everything that was going off that they never thought you had to spend money to enjoy yourself. In the past couple of years we have been to Graves Park and all that is, is one big fairground where it is spend, spend, spend. Hopefully someone from Sheffield Council will read these comments and act upon them but do you think they will? no neither do I.

What have you been doing for the past 5 years? Sheffield Fayre has been in Norfolk Heritage Park and will be again this August 26th & 27th this is a great family day out with lots of entertainment for all the family, including multi period living history camp, Sheffield Horticultural Show, craft stalls, community stalls, arena entertainment etc etc etc and entry is FREE. There are also stalls selling food and drink. The event is organised by the Sheffield Fayre Management Committe, which is a group of local people and a rep from SCC.

Come and see us (I will be in the Horticultural Marquee!) car parking is available via the Granville Rd entrance but costs £2.00per car.

Just for info Mayfest is organised and run by a private company - not Sheffield City Council, although they do help to set it up.

The mayfest organisers were faced with a number of problems this year, the main one was the useage of Hillsborough park, local residents, other park users, the city council and safety officers had all made their voices heard about them not being happy about it continuing in Hillsborough park. the work that had been done on new paths and new surfaces also created concerns for the organisers. the other main problem is and will be for all events the ever rising costs of setting up and making safe and providing for the needs of every visitor which at the end of the day has to be covered by some financial source, as stated previously by myself and others the Mayfest is organised by a private company, who have to pay wages to their staff, and operate a business.

So before people continue to put down and derigate the hard (very wet ) work put in by the organising company this year, lets just think if you and your staff had planned for about ten months an event, pulled together some 300 + contributors; fairground, catering, army, animals, radio stations, market stalls, marquee companies, security officers, public address system (not mine, Fred Hall is better) and all the others and then on the two days when people could come and pay to see it and you as a business might actually make enough money back to pay all the costs and cover the costs of working for the last ten months it rained and rained and then rained some more, and all the work you had done was not rewarded you would feel well ****** off.

The change of venue has not helped, the weather has been a kick in the teeth, but the constant puting down of the event is very sad.

Yes its £7. to get in, which only just buys you a Mc meal or a very average pub meal, it dosent get you a ticket to a pop concert, or big show, which on a good weather day the Mayfest was, is and I hope will be again, its a good mixture of things to for a family to enjoy, the fairground rides are runing their business and live by taking money, if you dont wanna spend dont go on the rides, the caterers are selling food again if you dont want to spend with them dont buy it take your own. All the other attractions are made as much as possible to be without cost, zip wire form the army, trapeeze activity, Real radio music stage, BBC radio Sheffield bus, kids beach, animals, face painting and much more all free once you were inside.

I have previously worked on the Mayfest, and know some of the work that goes into setting it up, I do work on and plan other shows around the city and am aware of the costs that no one ever sees, event advertising, safety assesments, cleaning up, waste disposal, toilets, fencing, security, licences, marquees and many other things all run into thousands of pounds.

All I really want to say here is someone tried to make a show and even if you dont like it please dont knock it, to some people and especially some children its the only time they get out to see something beyond their own back yard, or street corner.

Foxprom, its a rip off, end of! £7 entry plus over prices everything when you get in! You cant compare it to a pop concert, its not like you are having massive stars there is it!

Well we are setting off in a little while, after we have given the kids dinner (i refuse to pay over the odd's for el eyeball and testicle burgers). The only reason we are going is because the kids really want to go. I hope they are not too disapointed. I do feel it's going to be a rather expensive day looking at 20 quid before we even start..grrr
