Owls swoop for Derby keeper

SHEFFIELD Wednesday are to solve part of their goalkeeping problem by signing Derby's Lee Grant this week.

Reports suggest the former England under 21 keeper is poised to sign a three-year contract at Wednesday. Owls boss Brian Laws has stressed that he needs two goalkeepers for the next campaign.

At the moment he only has youngster Richard O'Donnell on the books.

Grant, aged 24, made only eight appearances for Derby this season, including in their 2-1 victory at Hillsborough in September.

Meanwhilem Hartlepool have confirmed that another Owls target, goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos, has rejected a new contract.

The 28-year-old, whose deal is set to expire next month, was instrumental in the club's promotion this season keeping 22 clean sheets...

Laws surprised by Owls chairman

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws admits he has been surprised by the level of support he has received from chairman Dave Allen.

The pair met last week to discuss their transfer plans.

Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield: "The chairman has pleasantly surprised me because he wants to help me push on for next season.

"We had a good meeting last week and that's all I can ask for as manager to have the full support of my chairman."
