3 year old Madeleine McCann allegedly abducted in Portugal

Recommended Posts

We don't even know the whole truth surrounding this case and yet people are slating this girl's parents.

We do know they left their children to fend for themselves whilst they went out socialising.

By the way, how much slack do you give a 3 YEAR OLD BABY??

But I have to accept that if they're going to grow up, then I'm also going to have to cut them some slack.

What at 3 yrs old???

......... in England, leaving children this age alone is criminal in Law.

.....

Despite what you may think, it is not against the law to leave a child unattended.

It is against the law to leave a child "in circumstances where it may come to harm".

What those circumstances are can change depending upon the age and capabilities of the child and the circumstances in which they have been left.

And I'm asking you, do you never leave your kids out of sight?

I'm not saying what these parents did was right - we still don't know the full details - but what I AM saying is that the judgmental attitude of some on here beggars belief.

Seems you'd be happy to see the parents prosecuted and couldn't give a fig about the safe return of the girl.

And for your information, I am a parent who, like most others, is worried about bringing up his children in this world. But I have to accept that if they're going to grow up, then I'm also going to have to cut them some slack.

And for your information, I am not sure that cutting 'some slack' to a 3 year old, at night and in a foreign country is a good way of bringing up a child in this world.

No.

My eldest daughter is 7 (and a half; the half is very important at that age!) and my youngest is 4 (and a half). They both play outside but it still worries me. When I was 7 I was always outside, roaming around and playing with others. But it seems that a generation of kids is being raised inside houses because we as parents worry so much about them getting abducted or assaulted whilst playing outside.

My main bone of contention is that the parents of Madelaine are being villified as being bad parents at a time when I believe people's opinions would be better directed at simply getting this girl back safely.

I am not saying they did right leaving their daughter 'unattended'. I still don't believe we know the full story, either.

I cant stand all this pc crap.

They are bad parents for gods sake. Who the hell leaves a 3year old in a strange country??!!??

Get a grip will you and stop cuddling up to the 'its no ones fault' brigade.!

life was so much different when we were 7 though.

I have 3 children (2 1/2, 5 1/2 and almost 10) I don`t keep them locked in the house, but I wouldn`t leave them in bed whilst i went out for a meal!!!!

Well, I'll keep my opinions to myself from now on in the hope that the saga has a happy ending.

(First time anyone's accused me of being pc! You'll be hard pressed to find anyone more un-pc than me, but that's another matter.)

I have an 18 month old daughter and yes it would be nice to be able to go out of the house whilst she is in bed but I would NEVER NEVER EVER do this. Im afraid that becoming a parent means that you have to give up nights out (well as a couple anyway) unless you are lucky enough to have someone trustworthy to mind your child.

We have been on holidays as a family where there have been babysitting services available and Im sorry, I just would not leave my little girl with these strangers.

I would rather not go out and know my child is safe rather than to take the risk and leave her in bed alone no matter how far away I am, even if I am only downstairs the monitor is on constantly.

I think a lot of people have the attitude that it wont happen to them, what has happened is tragic and these people will have to live with this even if she is found.

My heart goes out to the parents and most of all the poor little girl even though I have my opinions on the matter, I do not know the full story and agree that people are quick to judge, myself included but unfortunately thats the way things are these days.

Hope she is found safe and well!

I've a little girl the same age as the one who has gone missing and NO I don't leave her in the house on her own and do you know why? Because she is a very young child and she is very vulnerable and it is my job to keep her as safe as I can.

And I bet that little Madeline's parents will no longer leave their children unattended either. But what a horrible way to learn a lesson that shouldn't need teaching.

Please God she is returned to them asap.
