Bakerlite   10 #73 Posted April 7, 2011 (edited) Any one remember Philip Medhurst who worked as a Sales Rep for Tinsley Wire from 1974 - 1977. Then he was made redundant. He lived in Kent which is where I come from. Edited May 17, 2011 by Bakerlite
 Share this content via...

Johnsworld   10 #77 Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) I started my electrical contracting apprenicship there for a company called Sheffield Electric of Peter Street. Over the following years (1969 - 1974) I worked there a lot and the person that sticks in my mind is a guy called Larry Lamb who was a manager in the manitenance department. Health and safety mean't nothing then, I can remember clambering in the rafters above the zinc and acid baths putting up conduit runs. I still shiver now thinking about it.  I also worked for Sheffield Electric back in the early seventies, remember clambering in the rafters also. Larry Lamb was the electical emgineer on site, seemed like a genius as he read complicated elecrical drawings and wrote his own.  In later years I was the manager of Bolton Brady Ltd, a company specialising in industrial door repairs. I had the contract for the site and used to spend a lot of time with my engineers on site.  One christmas, myself and my no.2 had called in the canteen for breakfast, someone was asking if anyone else wanted to buy some xmas raffle tickets as it was just about to be drawn.  Needless to say we bought some and I had the winning ticket.  Spoilt my breakfast, totally embarrased, could'nt get out quick enough - took my lovely hamper with me though. supersan   10 #78 Posted May 24, 2013 Hi, my name is Sandra. I worked at Tinsley Wire for 5 years from 1975 to 1980as secretary to Robin France in Accounts. It was a great company to work for at that time with a good sports club, excellent canteen and even a trolley service for morning and afternoon cups of tea and snacks. I made lots of great friends and still keep in touch with Sylvia from payroll (who still works there). Sadly, Dorothy Drury (who worked for David Young) and who I shared an office with, passed away some years ago. The two of us used to lock ourselves in the office at Christmas time because we always had to get the month-end accounts done before we could party with the rest of the staff! And remember, those days they were done on a manual typewriter and that was quite a feat I can tell you!
 Share this content via...
pumakitten   10 #79 Posted August 17, 2013 O.M.G I can´t believe i have found this site. I started working for TWIL in 1977 - 1983. I was in the accounts dept 2 on Shepcote Lane working with Gill on the weigh bridge figures and all of that was hand written in ledgers, the huge comp dept was on the other side of the reception area. I also worked on the switch board, reception and i probably picked up your post 2 or 3 times a day, i only could use the lift when i became pregnant, think they were being kind!!!! I do remember you Sandra and Robin who were just down the corridor from us. Dorothy and David i remember, did you all move onto the top floor when that was built? Do you remember the micro fisch tapes in the big vault, next to your office, the amount of times someone used to come pass and try and close it while i was in it!!!! I hope you still look at this forum and remember Christine Slack i was only 17yrs old and wet behind the ears when i started. So many memories too many to list here without boring other people:D
 Share this content via...

He was one of the funniest guys i've ever known. (although he could drive you up the wall now and again lol) R.I.P Jack.
 Share this content via...

srw-uk   10 #83 Posted December 4, 2013 My dad worked at Tinsley for many years, his name was Peter Wootton - he worked with many people and really enjoyed his time there. Sadly, he passed away in 2008 from Alzheimers. So sad to see what's happened to Tinsley Wire.
 Share this content via...
